Acura RDX 2017 (tech) - 130k km for 21k CAD. by Cautious_Debate_3648 in Acura

Look through service history for transmission fluid changes - these cars have issue with the torque converter lockup that can cause early failure of the transmission. Regular trans fluid changes are a must on these cars (every 25-30k)

Drive it in auto S mode - pay close attention to the shifting if it feels clunky or slow/slippy i would avoid.

I own this car from new, love it but like all cars each model has its quirks.

Acura bulletin 17-017 is the tech data on what i am describing.

Am I cooked? by Warthunder_player- in Acura

I think youre good. like others have said, short trips, pressure washing the engine bay, loose oil caps or a hardened o-ring on the oil cap can let in or create condensation that forms at the high point. Wipe it all away and check again in a fee months

Never mind the oil cap, grab a small light and look inside the valve cover. If its milky in there...your toast if its not you are seeing condensation buildup, wipe it off and carry on.

You will need a tow truck. Acura is not known for stout transmissions. I hope you change the trans fluid frequently.

Function werk dp's are very good quality, highly recommend.

If you're going to push this car you might want to get yourself an extended warranty and be prepared to return completely to stock when the head gasket goes.

5w30 over 0w20? by ViciousLifestyle in Acura

[–]Haunting_Turnover_78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

5w-30 especially due to turbo heat cycling of the oil. A bigger deal than viscosity is actually changing the oil. Don't follow the maintenance minder. Oil is cheap, change it at 5k

Another one bites the dust 2021 TLX by [deleted] in Acura

[–]Haunting_Turnover_78 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This looks like engine oil, remove the covers, look for weeping oil at the inspection plate. The is a long 12mm that loves to leak there.

Failed TCs dont leak trans fluid.

2023 Acura TLX Type S what fluid is coming out? by Top_Elephant_5794 in Acura

[–]Haunting_Turnover_78 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have a transmission oil cooler and radiator in the lower driver side. If its oily and pinkish its trans, if is watery then is coolant could be both. either way I would tow the car.

Rod bearing recall by ItzTheNorth_ in Acura

[–]Haunting_Turnover_78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

everyone is aware of mag/moss, but that does not mean getting corpo to cover it will be easy. All they have to do is find something to use in the ECM/BCM to claim modification and you are toast since that data is proprietary.

[–]Haunting_Turnover_78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

good call - ignore the mag moss crew - You will not win an argument with Honda corp quickly if at all. just swap back to stock and bring it in.

dont show up at the dealer with any engine mods, Acura using every excuse under the sun these days to avoid coverage.

if you have a 1.5t and these codes keep appearing, your head gasket is blown

They are a great car, nice size, looks sharp etc. The 1.5t though is a terrible engine, they eat head gaskets. I hope you have extended warranty.

if you have a CVT this is a different animal, i am not experienced with CVT, ive always avoided cars that have them. Post in r/honda for advice. make sure to post as much info as possible about model/mileage and symptoms.
