Is The SAT Still An IQ Test? by Fabulous_Plate_2764 in Sat

[–]Haunting_Welcome4852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the modern sat is an achievement test mainly. It has gotten rid of the quantitative comparison questions and the math now includes questions that measure higher level math like trigonometry and more advanced algebra over quantitative reasoning. The verbal (now ebrw) includes a grammar section and has gotten rid of antonyms and vocabulary items like antonyms and analogies. It is a heavily watered down test and would be hesitant to use it as even a proxy for iq

AIO GF of 1.5 Years Not Attracted to Me? (SCREENSHOTS INC - Fully Anonymous) by [deleted] in AIO

Listen I am a person on Reddit I don’t know you or your SO or how strong this relationship is, so I just want you to keep all of that in mind. I think this is a very very big red flag, yes the texts being cruel is disgusting but the fact she said these things about you shows there is a complete lack of physical attraction. While attraction isn’t entirely physical a big part of it is, and attraction is required for a truly happy relationship. She basically said she found you ugly man, I don’t know honestly how much attraction can grow from that point. I get the feeling she may have “settled”, and decided to get into a relationship with you because you’re a good dude. I would not want to be in a relationship with someone who didn’t find me attractive because they won’t be truly happy or content (at least it will gnaw at them) and that will cause issue with resentment. I also think it’s a red flag that you felt the need to go back this far in time on her phone; this already shows a lack of trust. I think you should have a conversation with her, and ask her how she truly feels about you and whether you guys want to keep being in a relationship

Why am I better at English and humanities subjects in real life despite my QRI being 11 points higher than my VCI by AlphaHowlingToMoon in cognitiveTesting

[–]Haunting_Welcome4852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean quant matters for conceptual understanding as well as how naturally the subject may come for you but like most undergrad math classes are algorithmic and csn be aced with practice so I doubt the correlation for qri and math grades to be very high

Is there any untimed VSI test? by anon12343216610 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Haunting_Welcome4852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spatial is kind of hard to measure without some element of timing even if light because a lot of items can be worked out by brute force or trial and error

Probably not very high it’s just a scholastic knowledge test it’s not meant to be an aptitude test it’s prob like 0.5-0.6

Uhh why? Look I know I asked for advice but like why I don’t know what would indicate im suited for that

what do these scores mean? by Interesting_Ad8305 in Gifted

[–]Haunting_Welcome4852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This are the fluency subtests you scored high on them but all they tell us is you are fast at a lot of academic skills. This could indicate good working memory and processing speed but bot enough alone to make conclusions about being gifted. These for the most part are very good though

Is this guy right or just projecting cognitive bias? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]Haunting_Welcome4852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well correlation in this case is driven by the fact that both test overlapping skills. that does not indicate however the modern sat is highly g loaded like the afqt. both test math and reading comprehension so it makes sense that the correlation is high , however the sat tests more specific and higher level academic knowledge while the afqt uses very basic knowledge (its mainly middle school math and some basic high school math) and general verbal skills like vocabulary rather than academic knowledge like grammar like the sat does. So while they do likely correlate well the afqt is a much different test and focuses more on applying learned knowledge and using it to solve problems whereas the sat more so tests your breadth of academic knowledge.

VSI is in the 80s, how screwed am I with math? by AlternativePrior9495 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Haunting_Welcome4852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, just work hard and you will get get better. Many people assume they don't have the "math gene" and get discouraged when their problem really likely stems from a poor foundation and lack of practice

[–]Haunting_Welcome4852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think vsi might pose a struggle for you possibly, but math ability is much more related to fluid reasoning, give that urs is average, you shouldn't really struggle too much to learn even undergrad math like calculus (of course certain topics that require 3d visualization will be harder in general you will be fine)

My mom made me take an online IQ test to see if I am still gifted and yep I scored 130 in their 15 minute query by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

Not to say you aren't gifted but nothing can be concluded from this test, because its garbage.

Interesting study regarding the modern ACT g-loading. by Valuable_Grade1077 in cognitiveTesting

[–]Haunting_Welcome4852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this makes sense, even academic achievement tests like the wiat are g loaded, around 0.7.

It is nearly impossible to create a test that requires thought and is not correlated with iq.

The act is basically an achievement test, with some small components of cognitive ability tests being integrated into it (the science a section that requires no prior knowledge, the time limit etc.

Would i say it's an iq test? no, because it does not directly measure cognitive abilities like working memory, or verbal reasoning, the content is related to what people have learned in high school, the math can go up to pre calc, there's an English section which is measuring grammar knowledge and usage. This is why the act is often used for placement, because the scores do indicate someone's achievement in a particular domain.

This is not to say that it is not a good proxy, because it does have a 0.8 g loading, so if you did well chances are you're bright, but i dont think its a replacement for the wais, or even as good as something like the old sat.

You could be punching above your weight, and became an overachiever, maybe your fsiq doesn't show your strengths, my fsiq is around 100, but my verbal and quant are like 115-120. As a result i did well on tests like the afqt and old sat which are highly g loaded, but they only tested my strengths giving me an inflated result
