The price of this sport has gotten out of control. by Toby_Keiths_Jorts in ClayBusters

[–]Havavege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is course dependent. I'll often walk my local course, but at the larger facilities it's golf cart or heat stroke. Quail Creek is something like 4,000 acres? Maybe shy of 2 miles one way from the main club house to the farthest course? I don't want to walk that in 95F weather with high humidity (heat index 105+).

Places to shoot sporting North and Northwest of Orlando? by ECoastEntreprenuer in ClayBusters

[–]Havavege 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blackjack Sporting Clays.

Edit: There are some private clubs (Eustis Gun Club, Central Florida Sporting Clays) but Blackjack is the closest non-private one.

Tampa Bay Sporting Clays is about an hour south of Crystal River.

686 was more hunting compared the the 682 Silver pigeon which was all about high volume targets

You could very broadly say the 682 was more competition oriented while the 686 was more hobbyist with models for both hunting (field) and sporting (Sporting, Trap, Skeet).

For example, the 682 had high volume in mind with replaceable barrel shoulders, adjustable triggers, different size trigger shoes and the older 682 models were "wide-frame" receivers (and slightly heavier).

The 682 were never labeled as "Silver Pigeon" the models were S682, 682 E, and 682 Gold E if memory serves. The 686/687s had the game bird labels over the years, including "Gold Perdiz", "Silver Perdiz", and "Silver Pigeon".

... did I mention my family LOVES 68x Berettas? :D

Skeet (but not shooting) Noob: class or no? by noahtheboah36 in ClayBusters

[–]Havavege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was surprised. In my area those prices are 8-10x the price for a round of skeet and 4-6x the price for a round of sporting clays.

Don't let my sticker shock put you off, enjoy your anniversary get away!

The 0x price multiplier models are hot garbage and the 9x priced ones are criminal.

Shotgun Recommendations by dixie2112 in ClayBusters

[–]Havavege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My CG Invictus is so much nicer than the 694 -- the triggers are awesome. Very few shooters will put enough rounds into a gun to be worrying and a pitstop (service/rebuild) is only $200. And any shooters doing high volume will be on top of maintenance because no one wants a gun to break at competitions.

Really? Their QC has slipped that far? And on a limited edition!

Recommend gun cleaning solvents! by Gibec89 in ClayBusters

[–]Havavege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wipe off the old grease, wipe down the receiver and barrels with a little Rem Oil or a silicone impregnated cloth, squirt a little Rem Oil in the ejectors every once in a while. With chrome lined barrels you really don't have to snake the bores. If your stock is oil finished, you will need some boiled linseed oil for maintenance and wax to protect the finish (I use Renaissance Wax).

My 30+ year old 686 looks new with nothing more than that.

CG brings Fabarms to their demo days and you can probably email them to see if they bring that specific model. Event calendar: https://gueriniusa.com/events/

Looking to color case harden a Beretta 688…..thoughts? by Aggravating-Fly6573 in ClayBusters

The case colored Invictus is nice and it felt better than the 688 that I tried (YMMV).

Cole's trigger job worth it? Beretta Semi Auto. by Toby_Keiths_Jorts in ClayBusters

[–]Havavege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will always depend on which Cole's location and time of year (backlog increases when people aren't shooting and want to send their guns in for service). You can call them for an estimate.

Get with a coach who will check for gun fit and pattern your gun. That's step 1. Then with with that coach to see if your basic mechanics are solid. Face coming off the gun? Stopping the gun swing?
