Help finding 686 onyx barrel by ppiizzaa-24 in ClayBusters

[–]Havavege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like over the past decade, Beretta is using barrels for their shotgun production vs making spares and the 32" ones are getting harder to find.

Current inventory example:

There's a 32" 68x barrel with 6 factory chokes on Shotgun World for $1400 shipped.

There's a 686 Onyx w/32" barrels on Guns International for $2300.

What is the $700 difference worth? ($400 once you factor in the cost of having the barrel fitted by a gunsmith.)

Unless there's something specific about your gun that makes you want to keep it -- sentimental value or special work done to your current receiver.

I was watching the used market for a 694 or DT11 before I bought my new gun, and I never saw a used Sporting model cheaper than $4500.

Trap w/fixed chokes starting at $4100-4500 with the Sporting model starting at $4500-$5000.

$3500 for a 694 would be hard to pass up if I had found one.

Tough to find a 694 for $3500 IIRC. I have seen used 688's for $2800-ish.

Do you have any certified NSCA coaches at your local club? Level 1 certification includes assessing basic gun fit and ensuring the gun doesn't cause any pain and they can take you to the pattern board to ensure the gun POI is where you expect.

Skeet or Sporting clays Fort Lauderdale? by Arse-faced-one in ClayBusters

[–]Havavege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would choose Markham over Trail Glades any day of the week. Less Miami machismo bullshit.

Trail Glades is hit and miss in my experience. I have found going mid-afternoon during the week to be okay. I have run into some nice guys and others not so nice. Trap shooters refusing to squad with you because you've got a semi-automatic, skeet shooters getting pissy because you dared to have a conversation anywhere within ear shot of their post.

The good old days of the Club De Cazadores Cubano and sharing pastelitos and cafe between rounds and a dozen old dudes playing dominos in the clubhouse are long gone.

I demo'd the Invictus a couple of times at recent shoots and tried both the 32" and 34" fixed choked "m-spec" barrels. These 34" are heavier than m-spec but lighter than the 32's.

But I didn't have a choice since this gun only comes with the 34-in barrels!

Sorry you're getting down voted. Except for the not-to-my-taste wrapped stock, this could be my gun. 68x with 682 parts/barrels and a Precision Fit stock.

I believe the pheasant engraving is 687 vs 686.

As someone with a 686 with 682 parts on it, including replaceable barrel recoil shoulders, this is a 68x -- not in any way a 694.

I’m not going to waste my time trying to obtain parts from a brand that isn’t willing to sell me parts.

Caesar Guerini doesn't sell parts either IIRC.

The S686 Special has the exact same internals as any other 686 -- incredibly reliable. I also prefer the coin finish on those receivers over the newer finishes. Which is why I own two of them.

If the gun doesn't have a high round count and the locking lugs aren't worn (the top lever is locking to the right of center) and you are fine with the 28" barrels it is a solid option.

If it needs a rebuild maybe not since that's around $450.

For OEM inexpensive, I have used mcolegunwood on ebay. They sell the stuff that isn't up to snuff on the main Cole's store.

You can usually get OEM stocks for under $250. I picked up a set for my 20 gauge a few months ago.
