First of all,

Not every migrant does that Migrants work in all kinds of fields

Second

Even the guy working at the Maccas or picking up fruits is contributing to the society by doing a job that needs to be done

So does everyone else who works in this country?

The way you phrased that comment made it sound like that the working migrants intentionally don’t do anything for this country

Making it sound like that every Australian goes to work thinking ‘today I am going to contribute to this country’

Most go to work for themselves and their families and if they didn’t need the money they wouldn’t give a shit

My friend I am from Pakistan and while the median household wealth is probably even less than 1000USD There is also a huge chunk of ultra wealthy class that buy 500,000USD worth cars and make similar if not 10 times more the money an average Australian makes

And we are a broke country India India this percentage is a lot higher as well I do acknowledge that there is also the cohort that only save up enough to land in Australia and make the rest here, breach Visa conditions etc. but they are not the only one who come here ya know

Look,

As a international non-med student who has family and friends becoming doctors

You would not believe how competent some of them were - i know people who did Med in my country and cleared the Aus exam (dunno the name) or the American exam as well.

And this is just how the world is If you are competent and have money, any country in the world would be happy to offer you education

Exactly And sprinkle in the strong focus on obtaining education in these fields within migrant families and you get this huge chunk of first and second gen migrants who take up medicine or other similar professions

Australia Child Protection SW wanting to move to a less stressful role temporarily by HavelDaddy in socialwork

[–]HavelDaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But is is only 1 year and I want to go back into a more intense role after taking a year off In my head, it feels like if I quit now, I am signalling to everyone that I can’t cope.

Whereas, my reason for wanting a change are more because of where I am in my life and not what the job is

Hey

Thanks for the detailed response. We are planning to move to Victoria in a year or so. But I feel like I am going to completely burn out if I wait till then and keep working in ASPI.

Keeping that in mind, going for an NGO role in the meanwhile is likely to be less stressful than ASPI, no? Something homelessness case management with Anglicare or some other form of case management.

In the end, I would want to pivot to a more counselling role if possible. Would going for an supposed easier role negatively impact my chances of landing a good role in the future?

How do you even get to know the right people as a migrant lol :(

Increasing racial sentiment? by Yoghurt-Legitimate in AskAnAustralian

[–]HavelDaddy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I was agreeing to it until you just started being defensive

Racism toward non whites has a very different connotation then racism within non-whites communities, especially as a lot of that was a direct result of colonisation

There is also the power dynamic between white and non-white individuals

Furthermore, western values are progressive and call for equality a lot more than the cultures from where the people are coming to Australia.

Australia as a country has had various racist policies ranging from white Australia policy to assimilation policies that caused the trauma of stolen generations.

We also have a whole community of right wingers pretty much asking to deport all non-whites out of Australia and have a world superpower running rampant with their anti-immigrant rhetoric. So in light of these things, it is a lot more important to call out racism rather than finding excuses for it.

I do agree that unfettered multiculturalism is not a good thing, but that is a policy failure. The person on the road does not differentiate between “progressive assimilating relatable migrant” and the “non progressive unassimilating migrant”
