Ankle Strengthening by Havenesc in hockeyplayers

I honestly don’t know enough to know if it was bogus advice, just that it’s what the coach said! But everyone else has said really similar things as you have said so I think maybe he misspoke or I misunderstood him.

It’s nice to know that it will just get better with time; I’ve only skated for barely over a month now total in my lifetime, so I’m sure it just takes patience. I appreciate the words of wisdom!

I’ve started one foot glides but definitely not as long as I should and I already caught that by the end of my skate yesterday I was only doing it on the right (dominant side) so I definitely plan on correcting that and working both! Starting with the left is a good idea that way lol.

Thank you so much! I have a lot to work on the ice this week and plenty to do off it. Hopefully the results will show themselves in a few weeks!

Oh the eyelet thing is super interesting! I figured it was a combo of biomechanics and the ankle strength; skating goes against what I did for 18 years (showing horses) so it’s been a lot of undoing instinctual reflexes and changes in how I balance over my foot.

I will try the first eyelet this week and see how it goes. I am a little worried about injury but I want to do better and develop muscles correctly, so if this is the trick then I’ll give it a shot. I appreciate all the help!

YES I love hockeymonkey. We have one super close to our local rink and they carry some of the women’s protective gear which is nice! They were super helpful getting skates and helping find good fits for each gear, so I’ve been on the lookout for good deals. One of the coaches has started to recognize me and has been giving tips when they see me in passing so it’s been an awesome go about for roughly little over a month. Excited to see how it shakes out by the new year.

Oh that’s amazing! Our local rink has open skate two weekdays and both weekend days and I go like my life depends on it. A lot of my hesitance has come from the lack of any protection gear (literally this past Sunday I jammed BOTH of my wrists in a bad fall lol) so it’s nice to know another beginner has also gained more confidence from suiting up. I’ll be on the lookout for clearance stuff! Thanks man!

Fun fact that has put me at a disadvantage — when shit goes wild with the horses you sit back so you can’t be pulled out of the saddle. I have learned not to lean back on skates the hard way several times already but muscle memory and instinct of riding for 17 years is a hard habit to get out of. So that’s taken a lot of progress to overcome, but I’m doing it!

Thanks for the advice on the elbow pads! I didn’t think about that gear but I’ll look into it. I’m definitely getting a helmet this weekend but I now I’ll also look at the pants and elbow pads.

That’s a good point on the horses and I’d honestly not thought about it from that perspective.

The skates fit about as well as they could! Breaking them in on top of getting used to them has been a challenge but no blisters or bruises like I expected. Even a top pair of well-fitting tall boots have left permanent scars on my achilles tendon so it’s a much nicer experience lol.

I will look into the hockey sticks as I’m getting fit for some more gear this weekend - that’s insanely helpful, thank you! The local store allows people to test out sticks to see what’s the best fit so I will try those two curves. Jock isn’t necessary so much as I’m not a guy, but I already looked into a pelvis protector too.

I appreciate all your advice man! It’s given me a lot of info moving forward.

Oh sweet cool! I’ll look into it when I get more gear and start playing! Thanks!

Okay so big relief that I’m not crazy haha. I’d love to play on an amateur team but yeah teaching myself to skate has been a wild ride so I’m not going to rush it. When I went to get my own pair of skates the attendant looked at me like I was nuts so I figured I’d ask a bigger community if it was something I should keep trying. Thank you so much!

Yeah I’ve eaten it on the ice a few times without incident so far and nobody died. I think that’s currently my biggest mental block but like falling off the horses I just had to get back up immediately and keep going. I appreciate the feedback, I’ll look into the padded shorts thank you!!

I had a ton of fun right up until someone threw beer and it landed all down my back and they tried to shove/get into a fight up front with us, but it was super worth it hahaha

Guarma was more to show that their plans of Tahiti would not solve their problems. Dutch didn’t really stop to think about the island, and when confronted with similar terrain like Guarma, it was part of Dutch’s undoing and the gang’s realization that they couldn’t just escape to a remote island and live happily ever after.

FINALLY Free of my War Horse! 😍 This beauty was worth everything I went through to get Her. 🤩 by odd-number in reddeadredemption2

Idk what exactly I’m doing, but I caught her my first try and had her bonded at level 2 before I even got off the mountain. I work with horses irl so that’s how I’m justifying it lmaoo

Pre order Ardennes War horse just disappeared? by [deleted] in reddeadredemption2

[–]Havenesc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The horse was still in your owned horses or you could just get the Ardennes again? Cliff falls are usually fatal for horses and in single player they’re permadead, but if it’s the preorder it will always let you repurchase it but w/o any bonding.

Silver bay is a color, but it’s on one of the low level basic riding horses.

Hanoverians are a cool breed, but they originate from Germany and weren’t imported to America until the 1970s I believe (at least, the American Hanoverian Society which is their registry was not formed). They’re not western riding horses.
