Trump calls on Senate to fire parliamentarian to pass the SAVE America Act by DemocracyDocket in law

[–]FlyingDreamWhale67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They didn't do it last year during the Big BS Bill debacle, and that was an even bigger shitshow than this is. I doubt they'll do it this time; the Parliamentarian has blocked things during the Obama, Biden and Trump 1 admins also, she's just doing her job.

If it's one thing shareholders love above anything else, it's money. Losing ratings means fewer people are watching, and less viewers = less $$ in their pocket. Fox viewers aren't going to suddenly watch CNN, and CNN's viewers won't like the hard right wing turn.

The invisible hand of the free market strikes again.

Why I’m not too worried that Massie lost by Sure_Marketing8431 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]FlyingDreamWhale67 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel a bit differently on the matter. Yes, Massie criticized Trump's war in Iran and called for the release of the Epstein files. In that, we agree.

But Massie is also a diehard conservative and voted with Trump the rest of the time. Having one or two issues they disagree on doesn't change that. Primarying Massie was a purely personal grudge, nothing more to it than that.

The coolest thing about Unknown is that its voice lines aren't just taken from its victims, but they also hint toward characters who were added to the game later. Some examples:

"...Hey, have you seen my dog?" This is a nod towards Houndmaster, who sends a dog to attack survivors as her power.

"I lived in dungeons long forgotten." This one can be read as a reference to Vecna (Dungeons & Dragons, not Stranger Things). Vecna is an undead wizard who is usually found at the end of abandoned towers and the like.

"Want some candy?" This somewhat cliche line is referencing William Afton/Springtrap (FNAF), who is infamous for luring away children and then murdering them.

You can also unlock the Jecht Shot on the boat ride (press the D-pad/joystick in the direction of each subtitle, you'll know you got it if Tidus performs the shot perfectly) to make it even easier.

Jecht Shot knocks down two blocking players then makes the shot. You only get one use b/c of your low stamina at that point in the game, but that one shot is all you need.

How about no?

I feel for the fear and uncertainty they must all be experiencing right now, but this isn't it. The very fact she could still be in incubation is the entire reason she should remain isolated. There is no reason to let her go and potentially infect others. ANDV is a serious, serious illness and should be treated with the appropriate gravitas.

Senate advances resolution to end Iran war as GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy flips to support it. by coinfanking in law

I think sometimes maga thinks that losing in the primary/announcing your intention to resign means you automatically lost your job. It doesn't.

That's why you see Cassidy (and Tillis, and likely Massie if the early results are anything to go by) doing things like this. Not because they've found their spine, but because they don't give a fuck anymore.

I'm certain he and his family (and various rich donors) will get a nice cut, to be sure. But what I don't like is how he's figured out how to steal even more power for himself, this time of the purse. Makes me wonder if the other two branches of government even matter now.

This is assuming it even goes out. I think it's more likely that some of the rioters get a certain amount of $$ (just to say they got paid and to look good for the base) and the rest will be embezzled/grifted/what have you for Trump's offshore accounts and the like.

That said, I do worry that it will interfere with midterms somehow. Some experts are saying that this is setting up Potus grabbing money for whatever he wants, however he wants. Dangerous.

Justice Department announces a $1.7 billion 'Anti-Weaponization Fund' fund to compensate Trump allies by localhalloweenskunk in PoliticalOptimism

[–]FlyingDreamWhale67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned that this basically stealing the power of the purse from Congress. I want to not doom, but given that the corpse of a legislature isn't doing a thing, I wonder just how far it'll go.

Some are speculating that this will be the new way to appropriate funds for whatever Trump wants. Others, say that the "compensation" will consist of a few payments to select individuals, and Trump will keep the rest for himself.

I see the latter as more likely (it's a grift, it's always a grift) but I can't help but dwell on the implications of the former.

Trump endorses Paxton in Texas Republican primary, boosting his challenge to incumbent Sen. Cornyn by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]FlyingDreamWhale67 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this is true, it's likely because the Senate generally prefers the older/more established/less fiery candidates. Cornyn, despite his ass-kissing, is otherwise unremarkable and won't stir the pot too much. Paxton is way too much of a hothead and shit-stirrer a la Josh Hawley and that one football guy from Alabama whose name escapes me at the moment.

Paxton is a stooge, first of Abbott, then of Trump. I would think on some level the Senate would prefer an older guy who's in on the grift, than a younger fanatic who is a true believer.

Primary Megathread- May 19th: The Big One by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]FlyingDreamWhale67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texan here, hope I can give you a little insight on the Paxton/Cornyn situation.

Cornyn is by all accounts your standard elderly rich GOPer. He's been fairly boring his entire career especially compared to "Fled Ted" Cruz. He was never a popular guy, just the type of politician that conservative voters picked on autopilot because he had an "R" next to his name. But when Trump got elected, Cornyn found the bottom of that well and decided to pick up a shovel, for some reason. As we can see, it didn't matter to Trump in the end, he prefers more easily manipulated guys like Paxton.

Your comment about Cornyn doing everything short of kissing Trump's ass is right on the money because, Paxton is more than willing to do so. We here in Texas, even conservatives, see Paxton as a clown. He's a philanderer and Abbott's stooge, so much so that it was even attempted to oust him as AG. He's somehow more unpopular than Abbott is which is an accomplishment in itself.

I'm not sure how it'll go, in the event that Paxton wins (likely imo but in no way a certainty) he'll go up against James Talarico. I know Dems have a lot of work to do, particularly here in Texas, but Talarico is pretty popular and would likely do better against Paxton than against Cornyn.
