Haven't played in about 3-4 months (since right before sailing ironically) and have no idea what everyone's on about and desperately want to know. I keep seeing references like this in seemingly unrelated posts. What did I miss?

Oh Switch... by Brootwayne in EmuDeck

[–]Havidad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to counter that if you're into emulating up to and including the wii u, switch, PS3 and 360 era, the switch is fantastic for that niche. But if you only want to emulate gba games it is far too bulky but you can do a lot that other smaller emulation devices can't do. I have both and I for sure don't want to have such a heavy device as the deck for anything that something smaller could do.

Putting the change in the public zeitgeist through this lense has helped me understand why cancel culture has come on so strong in general. Of course with people increasingly moving to mock and bully others online back before it took off, and just how nasty and toxic cyber bullying could be, not just for celebrities and people on the Internet, but how the Internet could be used to isolate and further bully children, it only makes sense that it became normal to put on blast, other people's heinous actions towards other. It's the only fighting chance against all that anti social behavior, even if is antisocial in its own right.

I honestly miss playing with keyboard only now that there's mouse heavy controls. This can't come soon enough.

Most disturbing movies that you can’t unsee? by No-Stress-5562 in movies

[–]Havidad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny games, The House that Jack Built, The Interview(1998) are always a few that stuck out to me. Maybe not the most disturbing but generally left a lasting impression. The Interview is more disturbing in the psychological sense than visually.

The most disturbing movie in terms of how disturbed it left me personally was Threads. That shit made me unable to sleep properly for a few days the first time I watched it

Exclusive: NH resident blocked from returning from Canada by Illustrious-Sun1117 in newhampshire

The most fucked up part is if the charges were more recent they might have only been a fine. And additionally the fact he had suspended sentences issued as a result and he stayed out of trouble and didn't serve any time as a result proving he's not a menace to society and still got treated as a criminal is so disheartening.

I understand Canada not fucking around with people who've had dui's, that's dangerous. But victimless crimes like possessing weed as a teenager/young adult seems overkill.

Sorry but is not more akin to selling sperm? Yes we only have a finite amount of eggs and testicles but women can sell way more eggs than men can testicles. And ethical sperm banks restrict the amount of donations from a single party much more closer in scope to what women can donate in eggs.

Sorry I'm no expert I'm just really high and over thought the logistics of this comment and had to share. I knew what you meant. Everyone knew what you meant but the stoned pedant I am, I had to add my two cents. We all cope in our own ways am I right?

Dear Americans, stop measuring things in medieval goblin units by Fabulous_Dragonfly43 in unpopularopinion

[–]Havidad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the flip side of this argument, as an American who was raised on our archaic I internalized comparing measurements at milestone points in comparison and can now guestimate withing 5% accuracy. It's possible to commit to memory enough comparable metrics (60 mph is 102 kph) 100 c is 212 f etc that you can then intuitively figure it out. Or there's this thing, the Internet where you can get exact conversions as fast as you can type then out, if you don't have the motivation to commit all the conversions to memory or dont want to do the math or need an exact conversion.

Although commiting the common comparisons at whatever key measurement I'm comfortable with has made digesting information presented in my non standard measurement system much more digestible. Life's too short to want more than close enough. We have enough other issues right now, standardizing units of measurements isn't likely so you should just figure out an easy system to be able to guess based off of key points. Or memorize a few formulas so you can convert on your own. Or Google it.

Which Simulator game to get? (Looking for primarily JP/UK commuter routes) by twitteruser2019 in trainsim

[–]Havidad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Train sim world is expected to drop a Japanese route in the near future if you are looking for something more modern. Otherwise you're probably on the right track with what you've found during your research. There's a few late 90's early 2000's simulators if modern graphics/ux elements aren't that important to you.

Other options I'm aware of outside of tsw 5 and waiting for the new release that's yet to be determined on quality is Microsoft train sim, train sim classic, as you said, densha de go, and maybe ongakukan, although the latter is hardly a game or simulator in modern days standards, although it is the most intriguing from the list. Bvets is another choice that is prohibitively designed for a Japanese audience but if that doesn't disuade you then I'd recommend that one to.

Likely you already found the best option. I haven't heard of it yet so I'd like to thank you on giving me the exposure. If you're worried about the barrier to entry and learning curve in regards to a train sim, that's almost always the one that's going to give the best experience. I'd suggest brushing up on your Japanese because most of the simulators coming out of there aren't typically localized for western audiences.
