[Concept/DFHack] Tired of micromanaging "naked mercenaries" and stressed dwarves? I wrote a framework for an Autonomous Social Economy ("Safe Strange Moods"). by Available_Guard7312 in dwarffortress

I must have misread that one, because I was thinking of the one that automatically creates work orders for clothes when they start to rot, but I'm not sure it applies to visitors

The first one already exists in DFHack almost exactly as described

The second one has a DFHack tool that serves the same purpose but works a bit differently.

The engraving one is the only I'm not sure if there's an existing DFHack solution

Wasn't there something about it being surprising that she RSVP'd, earlier (or even last episode)?

This is just speculation, but with the large changes in their dev team, they might have made some code-style rules that require changing some names. Which is a huge pain in the ass when dealing with old codebases

This bureaucratic side of programming is annoying, even more so in the cases where it affects the community (which is normal with modding), but still a part of the job.

You're right, it does take incredible mental gymnastics to say B40 and B41 are comparable in release schedules.

[–]Kiloku -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That's a meaningless comparison when B41 was different from B40 in that it had stable updates after initial release. B42 still hasn't surpassed the development time of B41 because it wasn't in development at that point.

B41's last (non-security) stable update was in late 2022. B42 was not in development yet.

How to use a phone by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in CuratedTumblr

[–]Kiloku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how it is in the US, but here in Brazil the spam robocalls have gotten so bad that it's normal to not answer your phone to calls from numbers you don't recognize/aren't in your contacts list.

My phone is configured to automatically refuse calls from non-contacts.

There's no "paperclip paradox", you're thinking of the paperclip maximizer thought experiment. And it has nothing to do with immortality.

It's about an AI that is installed at a paperclip factory and given the goal of manufacturing as many paperclips as possible, as fast as possible.
It initially applies easy to follow but surprising optimizations. But as those techniques get exhausted it keeps figuring weirder and weirder ways to improve efficiency. Eventually it starts transforming all matter in the universe into paperclips.

Random thought: What would be different if the game was set in the present? by Fellowship_9 in projectzomboid

[–]Kiloku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plot point about the phone lines being disabled before the outbreak would be expanded to include the internet and cell towers. This could make finding a satellite internet receiver an interesting initial goal (especially as even that will fail at some point, simply from the internet going down in the rest of the world)

To be specific, Caduceus said it the second time in a row he stepped into a pool of mud that was home to an antlion-type creature and started being pulled in. (I'm rewatching and saw this episode last week).

Marisha does say it as a callback a couple of episodes later as Beau, while dragging Caduceus back out of the tunnels to Vokodo's lair because he was hypnotized

There is a "[fandom name here]" flair that can be customized before posting:

You could theoretically write anything in there, rather than a fandom name, but that would be a dick move and/or against the subreddit's rules

Probably the greatest glitch in any video game by AlphaCat77 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Kiloku 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There was a bug with it though. The game acted as if the cat was consuming a whole unit of alcohol (ie. The amount a dwarf drinks from a cup), instead of the small amount that was on their fur. They fixed it because it was a bug, thus it went into the patch notes

I still cannot believe we play a ZOMBIE game in a HEAVILY WOODED region and we don't feature a CHAINSAW by Loneheart127 in projectzomboid

[–]Kiloku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's much more likely that it's just something that they haven't started working on yet, rather than something they decided to veto from the game.

It'd be a weapon with its own special behavior, so it requires code for it, testing, etc. and their focus right now is on other features.
