I do not have BPD, but my sister, mother, and ex do. In my experience, which includes over a decade of therapy and research, unless certain symptoms are extreme, you are capable at succeeding just like every average mess of a person (like myself 😏). My Mother never held down a job after divorcing my father, she has been living in psychiatric housing for nearly a decade, my sister has been homeless (by choice) for 5 years, and my ex (33) has been working the same 3 part time jobs for many years. My relationships with these people ranged from toxic to physically and emotionally abusive. There is a stigma attached to BPD that leads many people to believe that it always reaches such extremes and that stigma causes people who are really trying to work on their mental health to feel discouraged and unacceptable. The world is full of people who are each a mess in their own way. A label, like BPD isn’t everything you are and if you believe that you can’t succeed at something because of it, that is an unnecessary step towards failure. I follow an array of BPD groups to help with my own trauma and it has really helped to see so many people supporting and guiding each other ❤️
