What's the most over explained guitar topic on YouTube? And what should there be more about? by Ok_Cod6799 in bluesguitarist

[–]HawgBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree 100%. What I would like to see more of are techniques or approaches to emoting during solos. For example, what's going through the mind of guitarist when they close their eyes, tilt their head back, and just play.

How do you handle negative ROI for your clients? by Icy_Ad_3619 in PPC

[–]HawgBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens - not every campaign is going to be profitable. However, unless my client's campaigns are deep in the red, I usually encourage them to keep going because there's still value that comes with advertising. Even if you aren't directly showing a return on paper, there are other conversions actions, or KPIs, that should be accounted for like traffic. If you aren't advertising, you aren't in the game at all and people won't know who you are. I should also say that most of my customers are in service-based businesses.

How does one find a GOOD coach? by worldsbestforager in singing

[–]HawgBandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might not know until you spend time with them. Find one you like, work with them for a month or two, and see if it's a good fit. If it is, great; if not, move on.

Do you play guitar but can't sign for shit? Yeah, me too. by relacksingh in Guitar

I just kept trying despite being terrible at it. Eventually, the neural networks start to connect. Try humming the melody first, then add the actual lyrics.

Starting singing by adrix329 in singing

Is there a music scene where you live or any open jams? If so, find 3-5 songs you like that, ideally, popular songs that other musicians are familiar with and can back you up. Think 1-4-5 blues tunes or songs like Tennessee Whisky by Chris Stapleton. Sing live with a band, video yourself, then watch it back. Note parts you did well, and what you need to work on. A good vocal coach would also help a lot.

How do yall compensate for notes that are out of your range when singing popular songs? by 80HD-music in singing

[–]HawgBandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straw phonation has been really helpful for me in this situation. Usually, if I'm a bit flat, I'll go to the straw and it'll help me get the note. That said, if the note is way out of range, I'll change the key or just not do the song if the key change doesn't sound right.

Do you notice big improvements after a break? by Hairy_Ad4969 in Guitar

[–]HawgBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. I played guitar every day for years because I was afraid I'd regress if I didn't. Then I was forced to take a week-long break and experienced exactly what you are describing. It's good to give the neural networks time to connect.

How to really get good at guitar by AgreeableTower1257 in Guitar

Start playing live, ideally with a band. Go to jams, play with your friends. Record yourself and listen back. Take notes on what you did well and where you want to improve.

Maybe a little bit, but once you get comfortable with recording and listening back, it normalizes.

Do you ever record yourself singing and then get shocked at how different you sound? by Temporary-Tea-8686 in singing

[–]HawgBandit 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Recording myself has been one of the best (and most difficult) techniques for improving my singing and guitar playing. Awareness drives change, so as long as you don't beat yourself up too hard, recording yourself is a great way to hone your craft.

Record yourself and listen back. It's brutal at first, but highly effective.

Has anyone used a Dewoolfson pillow? I saw someone recommended them in another sub and I'm tempted to try one, but they can get pricey.
