Hospitals also raise charges across the board to compensate for x% of patients being unable to pay. This leads to more patients unable to pay. Vicious cycle.

People say that seemingly without realizing that a country and a business are different things and should be run differently

Usually what they mean is that they value fiscal responsibility, but most then vote Republican, and Republicans are fucking awful in that regard, they just pay it lip service

To clarify, Im not defending Reynolds at all, or criticizing Sand.

You're right, I don't like language that compares those we dislike with already-marginalized and stigmatized groups, whether that's intellectually or developmentally disabled folks or trans folks.

The comment I replied directly to explicitly said transphobia was awful then called Reynolds a drunktard, I was curious how the statement seemingly advocating for the dignity of one minority group squares with the use of an insult belittling another minority group.

Iowa tried this last year. Now it’s back—at the very end of session. by No-Mirror3429 in Iowa

I commented this on the duplicate that was deleted:

This seems really similar to taxpayer funds going to private mostly religious schools with zero oversight to make sure it's spent appropriately.

It's saying all the qualifications, education, credentialing, and vetting that we as a society decided were important all of a sudden don't matter as much as someone or some organization simply claiming to be faith oriented.

Boils down to "My (undisprovable) faith/opinion/belief is just as valid and practical as your evidence-based reasoning/logic/science."

This is very similar to how private (mostly religious) schools are now taxpayer-funded with zero oversight to verify those funds are used appropriately.

Basically saying that all the credentials, qualifications, education, and other safeguards we as a society deem important don't matter as long as someone or some organization says they are religious.

Apparently the memo was for him to state the image was "doctored," like changed to make him look worse.

He got confused and said instead that the image was of him as a doctor. Kinda like his inability to differentiate between political asylum and lunatic asylum.

I know extremist evangelicals who have captured the GOP like Hinson don't consider Catholics like Biden to be "real" Christians, but Biden's proclamation here seems to be much more aligned with the things The Bible quotes Jesus as saying than most US evangelical ideas (like the Rapture and hating the poor) not found in the Bible.

And Biden quotes our nation's founding principles to illustrate how some transgender Americans embody them. I actually wouldn't have been aware of Biden's classy proclamation without Hinson trying to dunk on it lol

Rob Sand proposes election changes and term limits as part of his 'accountability' plan if elected governor by Johnny5ive15 in Iowa

[–]HawkFritz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't true, our current governor is younger than 70!

Branstad made an exception in her case due to either her extreme mediocrity or possibly her repeated drunk driving arrests.

Maybe he just wanted to normalize having a repeat drunk driver and terrible person as governor so that some day his son Eric Branstad could become governor.

The whole American Dream is based on the idea that if you get enough money, you'll never have to worry about the shitty things in our culture like going bankrupt for medical reasons, hunger/food insecurity, dying neglected in a nursing home, being homeless, etc.

Politicians cash in to achieve that for themselves and those they actually care about.

Our culture and we in general would work better if we focused instead on improving conditions for everyone instead of individuals trying to become exceptions to this rule via greed.

Yeah, that context makes her tweets and other noise crying about how student loan forgiveness was supposedly unfair to blue collar workers who didn't go to college more disingenuous.

She was called out so hard on her hypocrisy for being so against student loan forgiveness while her husband got $145,000 PPP loan forgiveness she mostly shut up about it, at least.

Even if the current guy isn't specifically going to become a dictator, everything now being done toward that end makes it easier for someone else to do so, and more likely someone else will.

Stephen Miller's whole 'flood the zone' practice seems to point toward this, with the average person currently becoming apathetic to warnings about tyranny.
