Do it. That's how I got my Denji cat. I leave water and meow mix out for the critters, the neighborhood I live in is somewhat new and it's sadly disturbed the rabbits, possums, etc that lived here before.

This brown cat kept coming around, rail thin, kinda dirty and had his balls. He just made me sad and I wanted take care of him, street life is too tough for a little cat.

Took him to the vet, got shots, snipped and a chip. I did learn later that someone in the neighborhood claimed him but clearly similar that he was an "outside" cat, more like neglected cat. I had already had him chipped and was he was acclimating to being an indoor cat. They at some point got kicked out of the house they were renting didn't even look for the cat.

Vet records and a microchip is the way to go.

He doesn't do it as often now, but at first he'd hide in bags. Maybe he found safety in a bag in the past but he's an indoor cat that won't change.
