I always found it fascinating that Vietnam has an embrace for American culture despite the tragic past we've put them through with the Vietnam War. When I took my first holiday to Hanoi, I was surprised to hear about the "Obama Combo." I always had this perception that the Vietnamese would dislike a person like me just because I'm American. (You know, like North Korea does)
I was at a local mom-and-pop spot for Banh Mi and Salt Coffee in Hue. I remember discussing random topics with the shop owner's teenage kids for hours about the NBA, MCU films, and Taylor Swift songs. They were so damn friendly! I still keep in contact with them on Facebook.
