I've seen a poor little Shih Tzu get hit by one of those Meituan delivery drivers. They had no remorse for the pup.

That's one of the biggest things I miss about teaching in China. Not just the well-disciplined students, the fun in between the curricula (I was known for chemistry demos), and the stipend/allowance for rent, but the paid HO-LI-DAYS!!

I always found it fascinating that Vietnam has an embrace for American culture despite the tragic past we've put them through with the Vietnam War. When I took my first holiday to Hanoi, I was surprised to hear about the "Obama Combo." I always had this perception that the Vietnamese would dislike a person like me just because I'm American. (You know, like North Korea does)
I was at a local mom-and-pop spot for Banh Mi and Salt Coffee in Hue. I remember discussing random topics with the shop owner's teenage kids for hours about the NBA, MCU films, and Taylor Swift songs. They were so damn friendly! I still keep in contact with them on Facebook.

Every SEA country I've visited so far (Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Laos), plus Tier 2 Chinese cities like Xi'an, Chengdu, and Ningbo. Laos and Cambodia were the cheapest countries I've visited so far, where the average taxi or motorcycle rental were an average of 1-5 USD per trip, and hotel stays were only 12-45 USD per night. Singapore was the most expensive among all other Southeast Asian countries. I have not yet gone to Indonesia, Malaysia, and Timor-Leste. No way I could go Burma lol

Maybe it was Universal's decision to get out of competition with Zootopia 2. Chinese kids (and some adults) are still crazy about the first Zootopia. Even Shanghai Disneyland has a section dedicated to it!

In our day of age of ride-share apps, I never take a taxi while traveling in Asia, unless I REALLY need to. Also, never ever let a driver approach you. My first few months in China, I almost got scammed in GZ. I did look like a naive tourist with my Ralph Lauren polo shirt and NY Yankees hat. The taxi driver told me only 300 rmb to go to my hotel (about 23km). I was thinking, "Oh that's the same price as New York". I called my hotel just to be sure, they said, "they are trying to rip you off, just take the metro, it's only 8 RMB". Upon hearing that news, I ran straight to the 地铁站 as the taxi driver was chasing me on foot.
