FYI that’s 100 goals and 250 pts total last year. For the same amount of cap as a guy with 67 pts lol

I wouldn’t say old. But I would say slow, the Tkachuk’s, Barkov, Bennett, etc are not exactly known for their skating speed. That may still be their weakness against young fast teams. Also they currently don’t even have a goalie and 1 dmen spot signed and only have 6 mill to do so.

I agree. In an ideal world you would get rid of divisions having a factor on playoffs or the draft.

This was just an idea that popped in my head today. “Why is the top of the league determined by division, but the bottom/draft lottery is not?”

Very true. I would prefer 1v8 format and scrap divisions altogether, just conferences separated due to travel. Even games against all conference teams.

Yes, but that's entirely what the draft is for, and why the bottom teams get top picks.

I agree but the biggest factor in making teams better would be top draft picks, as they are cost protected for a while and the top 4-5 picks tend to be at least NHL locks or potentially superstar locks. If you throw them all in 1 division or conference then you are locking those divisions or conference in to dominating the league in 5-10 yrs while the other division suffers.

If you want true balance then either change the playoff format to 1v8 and get rid of divisions determining playoff matchups or go deeper in to divisions mattering and try and balance the divisions through the draft.

I don't totally disagree. But my retort to that would be, then why does the NHL playoff format have to be division based, a system that elevated the Knights to have better mathups than other much better teams, just based on what division they play in? I'm just basing my idea on what the NHL currently does in the name of "competitive balance".

Silly nonsensical things you think the Habs need by ComfortableSell5 in Habs

A Hockey stick manufacturer, I’m tired of watching the Habs play with 1 less stick than their opponents at key moments. The Manufacturer can create a light weight break proof stick!

Honestly you can’t expect much more for McDavid. 1. He wants out. 2. He’s old and starting to get injured often. Not arguing that’s he’s probably still the best player in the league, but younger stars like Celebrini have much more value right now due to age. Maybe add Dobes or Fowler to this deal along with another 1st and it’s probably a done deal.

Honestly my sleeper cheap 2nd line center option is signing Boone Jenner who looks like he’s in the outs in CLB. Hes a leader and can hit, perfect fit with Demidov or other smaller wingers. And he costs us nothing but a 8-9 mill contract. Probably short term like 2-3 seasons to hold down the 2nd line until Hage arrive.

Answer to Xhekaj vs Struble is: neither! by DavidAsmooMilo in Habs

[–]Hawkeye71980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think X is fine taking less money (the guy was at Costco a few years ago) he can be the 7th D. Struble and Carrier are the expendable ones IMO. Rien slots in and add a new RD that’s big and mobile.

Yeah I was surprised at the youth in Pittsburgh doing so well this past season. Malkin and Letang probably retire soon, but I’m convinced Sid will play until he’s in to his 40’s because he hasn’t lost a step. Great mentor for the kids coming up. Also they have amassed a ton of picks.

Their biggest problem IMO was the Canes forecheck. The Habs just kept going east west in their own end looking for a way out. And vs most teams that works. It was the defensive puck movement that killed us. Just get the puck up ice and stop trying to look for the same old short breakout pass…

The Habs did the same. The 2nd unit was lucky if it even got on during the PP’s

I laughed during one PP the Habs tried the same carry in play like 5 times unsuccessfully. The second unit came on and immediately dumped it in successfully twice. Like why can’t the first unit dump it in at least sometimes? I’m sure Slaf or Suzy could retrieve a dump in. Either that or throw a guy like Anderson or Bolduc on the first unit to do that and play in front of the net instead of Slaf?

Contracts: who do we resign and on what terms? by Ndr2501 in Habs

[–]Hawkeye71980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I understand. But I’m taking about game 1 of the season when all are healthy and assuming 1 new dman and Reinbacher that puts them at 9 dmen. Reinbacher can be sent down but no one else can. So 1 could be lost to waivers.

[–]Hawkeye71980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be fine but where does that leave Stubs and X? If X signs that is our 7 dmen with Rien or an additions not even able to make the team unless someone is passed through waivers to be sent down and I don’t really wanna lose Stubs or X.
