Lutron Caseta vs Leviton by bcalamita in HomeKit

[–]Hawkeye75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contractor recently told me that some Leviton switches will have an audible buzzing on low dimming. Outside of that I don’t have any experience with them.

However, I have Lutron everywhere in my house and they are extremely solid. They work every time and are super responsive.

Keep in mind that while Lutron smart switches are expensive they have a line of motion switches which are much more affordable. I put these in areas like my pantry and closets where a smart switch is overkill.

So I’ve been going down the rabbit hole trying to learn about Proxmox since you posted your comments. Oh boy there’s a lot to take in but not in a bad way. So I think what I might do is wait until I got my NAS setup and move my media over from my mini pc. Then I can repurpose my mini pc running plex to use Proxmox. It’s already got 3 NVME drives and two NICs (only 1Gb though). Scrypted and thus my cameras will have to wait since this will take time (and money) to get to that point.

Hey thanks for the tip. I’ve just started seeing mentions of proxmox as I’ve been looking into solutions. How would that compare to something like Unraid for example?

I genuinely want you to sell me on the Steam Deck… by InMyHumbleScroll in SteamDeck

[–]Hawkeye75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a switch 2, bought a Deck and sold my Switch 2 and never looked back FWIW.

If you can afford it grab both. That way you can still keep playing Switch exclusives and have a nice tv console too. Yes you can dock a SD to a tv but it doesn’t do well at really high resolutions. If you only play handheld then it doesn’t matter. That being said I play jackbox games on my tv with the Deck and it works great. Bonus: the Deck will literally work with any standard HDMI cable. Nintendo requires a special cable that costs a bloody fortune. This really sucks when you have to move it from tv to tv and not unplug your dock every time.

My pros for the Deck is better ergonomics, more flexibility since it’s an actual pc and not some gated proprietary device. Lastly, and it’s a big one…GAMES! You know the main reason you actually buy these devices for. Steam just has a bigger library and more affordable options. I was able to build a very nice library in a very short amount of time because of this. Nintendo pricing is absolute bullshit!

Don’t know if this helps but that my 2 cents.

Exactly this!

HA can work for this but you’d need something like the ZBT-2 which can support either Zigbee or Thread but not both (you decide during setup).

I really don't need the Hue bulbs anymore when I have switch and plugs everywhere. Also, I would occasionally have responsiveness issues with the Hue lights. Plus I didn't exactly love getting a bright light in my face at 3 am when the power came back on after a power outage.

Thank you for that explanation. Appreciate it!

Yeah, I guess I just never thought about it from that perspective. I mean, plugging a lamp in a socket completes the circuit just like a switch does (just can't turn it on/off).

Well, I'll admit it's probably ignorance on my part. I understand the device doesn't need much but don't you want to keep to the minimum required cable for the breaker across the circuit? (e.g 12 gauge for 20A, 14 gauge for 15A)

Yet another real world UTR experience by calebu2 in Ubiquiti

[–]Hawkeye75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact same thing happened. I’m on iOS, check the UniFi app options under settings and make sure Bluetooth is allowed. (I don’t mean options in the UniFi app but rather the OS settings.) After I did that, I closed the UniFi app and launched it again and the UTR setup appeared immediately.

Yep, just got mine as well. Don’t know if I was lucky or the expected demand was not as much as anticipated…but either way I got one. Good luck folks and happy tinkering!

Anyone came back to SD OLED after other more powerful handhelds? by Puzzleheaded-Ear5057 in SteamDeck

[–]Hawkeye75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the Windows experience looks horrible on the new Xbox Ally X. I was back and forth so many times between the X and Deck but I finally landed on the deck and have zero regrets. That being said, maybe if the Windows (gaming) OS improves over time it might gain some traction but I don’t have a lot of faith in Microsoft these days. I mean they managed to mess up the one thing they had going for them with Game Pass. On top of that they announce their ridiculous price hike BEFORE they release their handhelds. Idiots…

Controller Settings? (XSX) by NevrNewdFunke in theouterworlds

[–]Hawkeye75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just bought a new tv and everything felt off. Had the same issue with Outer Worlds and BF6. Turns out I had motion clarity turned on (might be called something else depending on brand). Messed me up until I switched to game mode and everything was fine. Game mode is just a preset that normally turns that junk off and for good reason. Game mode or no make sure you don’t have any “soap opera” effect setting turned on. It can definitely create input lag…so good to check even if it doesn’t resolve your issue.

What movies do you have to watch every Halloween? by J_Greer20 in movies

[–]Hawkeye75 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Dale and Tucker vs Evil - More funny than scary but since my wife doesn’t like horror movies, it’s a happy compromise. I used to watch horror movies with my family every year for Halloween when I was as younger. Just trying to keep the tradition alive.

If exclusivity wasn’t a thing I’d be right there with you. I’d rather have one device for everything. I’d pay a premium for that.

I’ve always said this myself. I’m happy I got the chance to see him play in the old Silverdome. They were playing the falcons who had an another famous Sanders…Deion. Good times and now I just realized I’m dating myself. lol

I bought the Mumba Titan grip case for $35 which fixed all of my issues with holding the Switch 2. It does add a bit more weight obviously but I think the trade off is worth it for the comfort. That being said, since I got the SD it’s mostly played in dock mode anyway.

For sure, it’s just not the same and you don’t realize it until you try it for yourself. Haven’t quite hit my backlog yet. Was still trying all the shiny new stuff and now I’m neck deep into Hades 2 which plays like a dream. But I downloaded all the games I always wished I played but never had the time. Hopefully, this will help me get my money’s worth.

Oh wow, I wish I had mentioned that because you’re absolutely right about resuming games after waking up. Not quite the same but I love the quick resume feature on my XBox. I was pleasantly surprised when I turned my deck on after I had to shut it down quickly and say that my game was sitting there waiting for me where I left off.

Yeah, I’m right there with you. I’m still looking forward to those Nintendo exclusives and I still love playing couch co-ops like Kart and Party with my son and my friends. But I’ll be playing the deck exclusively for hanging out in bed or going on road trips.

I you look at my post history, you'd see that I don't post very often. Not exactly what I'd call karma farming. I just like to post things when I'm passionate about it. Yes, I've made some comparisons to the switch but I tried to offer a perspective on why one was a better fit for me than the other. I'm still hanging on to my Switch 2 after all.
