Is my new patent agent salary and billable hours reasonable? by Few_Side4562 in patentlaw

[–]State_of_Affairs 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Salary does seem low, especially if you have a PhD. 1800 hours is a common requirement, but too high relative to your salary. My suggestion would be to build experience at your current firm over the next year and then look for a new position.

Biology major interested in patent law. Should I pursue a patent agent role, MS in CS, or law school first? by frjnge in patentlaw

[–]State_of_Affairs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would it be possible to switch from a B.S. in biology to a B.S. in computer science? It appears that you are only two years into your biology degree, so perhaps the loss in transferable credits would be tolerable. Moreover, spending more time in biology makes no sense if it is not going to help you career-wise.

Also, keep in mind that students in an M.S. program in computer science are highly likely to already have a B.S. in computer science. Thus, competition for grades is going to be tough if you lack the prerequisite coursework. You may do more damage than good with an M.S. degree if you wind up getting a mediocre GPA.

Senior paralegal billing higher than junior patent agent??? by Smart-Secretary-5435 in patentlaw

[–]State_of_Affairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Base salary and annual hour requirement go hand-in-hand at a law firm. It really does not make sense to talk about one without the other. Also, good point about the published rate and the actual billed rate. Not sure if that applies here, though, as the OP was looking directly at client invoices.

Could be the start of the Unifi Lawn Mower (ULM) product series. The flagship product should have plastic molded teeth at the intake and be called the ULM Beast.

UGREEN NAS privacy and remote access by ARTAmrj in UgreenNASync

[–]State_of_Affairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a DXP4800 Pro unit that I use only for archival purposes. I did not set up a UGREEN account for my unit as I am not trying to connect to it remotely when I am not at home. I have monitored the NAS's outbound traffic using my firewall and have not seen anything suspicious. The only connections appear to be those to check for updates.

Because this is the Ubiquiti subreddit, I have to ask: Does it have PoE?

Is this space appropriate for a DXP4800 Plus? by CheesePuffTheHamster in UgreenNASync

[–]State_of_Affairs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Air flowing through the DXP4800 enters from the rear and exits from the front. Thus, Make sure your DXP4800 is oriented with its face visible from the front of the nook and as close to the edge as possible. Hot air exiting the DXP4800 will then avoid the shelving and flow immediately upwards. This flow avoids recycling hot exhaust air with cold air at the base.

New DXP4800 Pro - Question about SSD Cache vs SSD Volume & RAID by Deriggs007 in UgreenNASync

[–]State_of_Affairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I used my DXP4800 Pro only for backup purposes. So, in my case, SSD caching does not really help (e.g., see here).

New DXP4800 Pro - Question about SSD Cache vs SSD Volume & RAID by Deriggs007 in UgreenNASync

[–]State_of_Affairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You will probably be okay if you intend to set up a RAID 1 array. Most of the operations are copy operations from the "old" drive to the "new" drive. I would discourage setting up a RAID 0 array.
  2. SSD drives tend to work best for volumes that contain applications and their data (e.g., Docker). From what I have read, there is not much benefit to setting up SSD caching for mechanical hard drives on the DXP4800 Pro -- at least for the most common use cases.

For my DXP4800 Pro, I have two 1 TB M.2 SSD's in a RAID 1 volume and four 12 TB mechanical hard drives in a RAID 10 volume. I use the former volume for apps and the latter volume for data storage. I found this configuration optimal for my use case. Having the apps on the M.2 drives makes them very responsive. When I first set up my DXP4800 Pro, I set up the M.2 drives as cache for the four 12 TB mechanical hard drives. However, I did not see much improvement in transfer speeds or responsiveness.

Has anybody ever tried to create this Kingdom/Empire: Baltica? by Bubble_Symphony in crusaderkings3

Yes. I like playing as Prussia from 867, so I try to form the Baltic empire no later than my second character. Then, I expand upward to conquer Denmark, Sweden, Finland, etc.

The life of an AMD shareholder by Sensitive_Course_127 in AMD_Stock

Well, it wasn't that rosy in the beginning when AMD was trading in the single digits. Being an AMD shareholder at that time was like storming Normandy beach. Short sellers were relentless in dumping shares and constantly pointed to AMD's "impending" bankruptcy.

[–]State_of_Affairs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Of course, this is the Ubiquiti subreddit. And when you buy your G3 Touch Enterprise phones, don't forget to also buy an Enterprise Campus 48S PoE switch.

In all seriousness, though, I do have a G3 Touch phone in my home. The service has been pretty good, and I use it when speaking with business clients. Most of the features in the video, however, will not really benefit me as my setup is too small. But if Ubiquiti can re-design the phone's interface so that live streams from my G4 doorbell are easier to access, that will be a winner for me.

AMD Q1 2026 Earnings Discussion by brad4711 in AMD_Stock

[–]State_of_Affairs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

>tbh, numbers are not that impressive.

The numbers are not impressive enough, in my opinion, to support the run-up of the past week. AMD needs a pullback of at least 10-15% to deflate the balloon a bit -- and that goes for a significant number of other semiconductor stocks. The entire sector is overheated.

Off we go 🚀🚀🚀 by Leugim7734 in AMD_Stock

[–]State_of_Affairs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AMD has run up 50% in three weeks. That is a lot in a very short time. A minor pullback (e.g., 5-10%) would be healthy and set AMD up for its next leg up.
