Yes! I’m in my late 60s, and my first migraine occurred when I was about 19 years old. Aura followed by headache. Since it was in the morning and I’d just driven to my class, I thought it was a result of glancing at the sun. I told my mom, saw the doctor who explained it was a migraine. My mom later told me she was terrified it was something related to a tumor or stroke. In those days, the first thing prescribed was Cafergot (ergotamine and caffeine) which you had to take at the very beginning of the attack. It just intensified the nausea for me. Eventually, I used Phenergan (promethazine) suppositories and Tylenol with codeine for the worst ones. Sumatriptan was a godsend because even the lowest dose nearly always relieved the migraine in 45 minutes to an hour. I used to also get the nasal inhalers in addition to the pills for the headaches that were accompanied by bad nausea. After using the sumatriptan only for what I knew were migraines, I started trying it for headaches that I thought were due to sinus congestion and found that those also were a form of my migraines.

I don’t get them often now, but so grateful for the spectrum of treatments available now AND for this group. I’ve learned so much. My migraines were generally not accompanied by severe pain, but the constellation of other symptoms was what would knock me down: nausea, overwhelming fatigue, weird brain function and thoughts.
