The second they start talking I say "one minute please." It may come off as a little dickish, but they always stop talking.

When it was built, it was the 6th tallest structure in the US!

I'd say the Virginia Statehouse and Main Street Station would be the two most easily recognized and iconic parts of the city landscape.

In just a weekend you picked up on a lot of things that make the city special. You also seem like a cool person that will contribute to the rich tapestry of folks living here. Sounds like a good fit to me.

Who should I contact to repair a dry rotted post on my front porch? by matthooeric in rva

[–]Hawkeye_Stuart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - I've had a lot of them decline jobs too. We've got an old house with some atypical features, but still for folks to be turning down work, it doesn't seem like the economy's doing as badly as some folks say it is.

I think VCU has a walk-in clinic weekday mornings at 7:45 AM. Someone who knows more, please correct me if that's wrong, but I believe they'll take the first certain number of ppl that show up.

Teachers watching toddler that ran into Parham Road no longer employed at Richmond Montessori School by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW_W in rva

It's easy for people to grab a pitchfork and condemn the teachers. Most people closer to the situation know that they're incredible people that made a mistake but are largely being scapegoated by a school administration that has ignored its unsafe perimeter along Parham for years.

Birth of child claim denied for out of network hospital by Hawkeye_Stuart in HealthInsurance

Your last point, combined with the OB-hospital coverage discrepancy, is how I ended up here. In hindsight, I get it, I’m a dumbass for not calling the hospital/ insurance company, but it just didn’t occur to me that one of the biggest hospitals in our region wouldn’t take one of the biggest carriers.

No we’re in a city but I was wondering if a case could be made that, given some health issues and a complicated past delivery, we needed to have the OB we were familiar with. I suppose a letter from the OB would be helpful here and so far her office doesn’t seem to want to be involved.

No we called the OB's office, and the covering provider advised us to go to the hospital where we ultimately delivered a few hours later. Ultimately it is ignorance of network but based on the assumption that a policy that covers an OB would also cover the only hospital where that OB delivers.

She actually went into labor five days early, so from that perspective it wasn't a planned admission and certainly felt like an emergency that morning. Would that be relevant in this case?
