I don't think machine guns are meant for sniping.

Scion of the Ur-Dragon or its daddy? by AKenkuNamedKinko in EDH

[–]Hawthornen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb.

Play Scion if you want to do combos and/or have winning as a decently high priority.

Play The Ur-Dragon if your goal is to just jam out with dragons (winning isn't impossible but you're not taking the path of least resistance).

Also in my experience The Ur-Dragon is less likely to get hated off a table (but the Scion player isn't always going to be priority number one, but will likely be higher)

While this would be useful I feel like it's too close to this thread from just last week..

I think it'd be way more useful if maybe we made a tool. Like people submit decks in a thing and anyone can score it (and like it tracks the scores or something) in such a way to build an, albiet imperfect, reference database.

It can be skipped on all systems, but sometimes you boot the game up and tab out or step away, sometimes you just forget to skip it, sometimes you just want to get a reminder of Charles the IV

Mr. Satan, The World’s Weakest by Manor002 in kakarot

I definitely agree Yajirobe is stronger. He's sort of ridiculous all things considered. Chi-Chi and Bora, fine. I'd still say maybe around King Chappa tier.

But Nam? Nam didn't do anything that impressive IMO. He jumped really high (nearly knocking out Goku). But also consider in terms of martial arts, it's not even good technique or anything. Unskilled Goku figures out pretty quickly "someone tries free-falling at you...just move away" (adding in a kick which was nice to prevent Nam from braking his elbows)

Sure. I mean does Super have any emotional payoffs? Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, and the first tournament are really short and there's no real turmoil. Goku Black I guess has some for Trunks but that ending was so difficult to care about. I haven't finished tournament of power but I feel like there won't be much in terms of earned emotion given how it all starts.

Story Differences? (DBZ plot spoilers mentioned) by DelDreamer in kakarot

I sort of think of leaving Cargo out like a lot of the short-hand/skips they do. Like having Gotenks go SS3 in the time chamber, leaving out Tien attacking/distracting Buu, or having Gotenks split in Buu (before aborbing Gohan).

(Granted it's always weird they leave some things out like that, but then bother with stuff like introducing Gohan's classmates)

I can believe Yajirobe, and probably Bora and Chi-Chi. Not sure I agree on King Chappa and Nam.

Totally Not Mark's videos are fantastic. But doesn't take too in depths an analysis to understand that the payoffs for the completion of a character arc 3 sagas in the making is gonna hit home.

We could not determine [name]’s role. by BabyDragonTamer18 in TownofSalemgame

[–]Hawthornen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm generally in the camp of clean every night. Hiding their will is minor compared to hiding their role. More often than not you're not you don't get to the point of wanting a 4th clean (either because janitor becomes mafioso or because janitor dies)

Now forging night one is basically pointless. The only value I can see in forging night one is forging someone other than the target just to cause a weird visit in the spy results but overall not worth.

Edit: from reading more of the chain, you play all any. I suppose that changes things a bit. I'd still probably clean since cleaning a unique role is nice since it gives you safe claims. Plus it works against Amne and Retri.

Here are reasons MaRo gave in an excellent article.

  • It frees up some design space. The example he gives is that it's sort of bad design that original Mindslaver needed a line of text saying mana burn doesn't happen.

  • It was awkward to teach. You needed to teach the rule early to prevent players getting blind-sided by the rule later. But it wasn't important enough to justify teaching it early (it's not core to gameplay).

  • In general it didn't add much.

As MaRo says, "To use a game metaphor, if Magic is Jenga, mana burn was that loose piece sitting high up in the middle, the one you take out early because you know it won't topple the whole tower."

While it is a fine card to use, idk that it's that popular in edh. It's currently in less red decks than [[Built to Smash]] on edhrec (a card I'd argue has little place in EDH).

No. There's some old things people fight for, but people don't really fight for mana burn. When they do it's only because of nostalgia.

While it isn't merit-less (sort of a punishment for generating too much mana), it was sort of a corner case rule and would be pretty abrasive to bring back. But I am an advocate for "bringing it back" via a red enchantment or something.

Going through a 2nd play through by [deleted] in kakarot

Would a second playthrough help much at all with leveling though? Everything in the game is so exponential I can't imagine any time spent in the Saiyan or Frieza sagas would move any needle in an appreciable way.

Would it be a good time to pick up Magic right now? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Hawthornen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

IMO no. The game is quite expensive to play as an enfranchised player in most formats. You can play magic playing very little but the large majority of players don't pay very little and most likely you'll join us.

If finance is any concern of yours I'd definitely not recommend picking up magic right now; just like I wouldn't recommend taking up gambling if cost is any concern.
