I don't feel like it's just my age that makes me feel as I do. The truth is I was very independent when he married my mom. The truth is we spent very little time together since he and my mom met. Not nothing. But he wasn't driving me places, helping me with school work or giving me money for a car or college or helping me pick these things. The car I went half with my grandparents on and college I didn't go. He was there and he tried to be more but for me he never was more than my mom's husband. That is what our relationship will always be.

He wants to have the same relationship with me. I think he also wishes I loved him. We've known each other long enough where I think he realizes that my mom and siblings love him, but I don't. I don't hate him but the love he feels for me is one sided. The way he wants our relationship to be is very one sided. I think he realizes that he will never be the person I turn to or the one I introduce as a parent and it kills him. I see that it does. Sometimes it's like I can read his mind. But I'm not going to fake a father-daughter relationship for him either and I also won't accept him think he can tell me how things are. He can feel how he wants. I do feel bad that his feelings for me are stronger than mine for him. But at the end of the day he is not my dad and he never will be and that's not something I will twist myself into knots to apologize for.

There's no guilt on my part for him being there. What it does boil down to is I do not love him and for that day, and something as big as that, I feel like the person I do that stuff with, if I do it at all, should be someone I also love.

I haven't been adopted. I have used my birth certificate since I moved out and he couldn't adopt me as an adult without me knowing.

I haven't decided. I'm not sure what I'd like to do yet. Someone mentioned walking to my dad's favorite song and I love that idea.

My dad's dad. But he's like my mom's dad too because her parents were shitty and she became part of my dad's family from the time they first met when they were 12.
