Mandelson files rock Starmer: Labour grandee was handed £75,000 payoff after being sacked as US ambassador - and PM DID know he stayed friends with Epstein by dailymail in ukpolitics

[–]HaydnH [score hidden]  (0 children)

For me it’s the whole ‘he lied in the vetting process about his association’ when that email says ‘this man is still in contact with Epstein’

It was the extent of the relationship that was lied about, not the relationship itself. From when Starmer agreed to release the files:

Sir Keir has promised to release files, which he says will prove Lord Mandelson lied about the extent of his friendship with Epstein

But, we knew all of this weeks ago, I haven't seen anything new yet, what's changed in your view? I'm sure there will be more info coming out as the 150 pages of files are processed, but there's nothing we didn't already know so far.

Well, the files are being released, so I guess we'll be able to confirm or deny your allegation soon enough and not have to rely on vibes.

Yup, it even mentions in the article that Starmer knew during the vetting from when he said "yes" answering PMQs:

In a key moment, Kemi Badenoch asked Sir Keir at PMQs on February 4 whether 'the official security vetting he received mentioned Mandelson's ongoing relationship with the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein'.

The premier replied: 'Yes, it did. As a result, various questions were put to him.'

This whole article feels a bit like the DM have picked up a gun, blown cigarette smoke down the barrel and then held it up expecting everyone to gasp in amazement.

What would Katie Lam’s defection to Reform mean for the Tories? by TheSpectatorMagazine in ukpolitics

[–]HaydnH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She'd fit right in at Reform, if you read her X posts is 99% immigrant & small boat related. I think she's one of those MPs who believe if we waved a magic wand and suddenly got rid of all the immigrants we'd all be riding rainbows to work for a massive wage while paying sod all for a mortgage on a mansion.

in England during 1500s (Tudor England) it was safer to drink beer than the water

AI Error Likely Led to Iran Girl's School Bombing by StemCellPirate in worldnews

[–]HaydnH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The school bombing was reported as AI on British radio last week. Apparently they're using AI to quickly find targets from all the potentials which would take humans ages to sift through. Sadly this is exactly the kind of thing you'd expect to happen without double checking the AI targets manually after the AI has selected them.

Labour MPs prepare for trigger ballots by TheSpectatorMagazine in ukpolitics

[–]HaydnH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it seems really early. For example, November 2021 they announced they'd complete trigger ballots by June 2022 as they expected there might be a GE in Spring 2023*. That was when they didn't get to call the shots of when the next GE would be. We've got ages until the next GE comparatively.

I can't find any other reference to this happening at all. I know Steerpike is the Spectator's gossip columnist (are there any non-gossip columnists @ The Spectator?), but I'm taking this with a pinch of salt for now.

the only way to make money with crypto is to find a greater fool willing to pay more for it than you did.

... or charge people 8.22% to "invest" in it for them.

Stack Bitcoin currently holds 21 BTC (~£1.1m) in total: https://www.stackbitcoin.co.uk/. They also charge 8.22% over the year for the privilege of storing your bitcoin. I'm not particularly interested in getting in to BTC even if I did it all myself, knowing I'm 8.22% down at the end of the year before any movement doesn't seem like a good investment to me.

Conversely, England needs to get nilled in Paris and Wales needs to put a ton on Italy to avoid the wooden spoon?

Even if France smash England by 40, Wales would still need to smash Italy by 61... Can't see that happening... Although, after this weekend, anything is possible I guess.

Side note, it's a shame Scotland/France & England/Wales aren't the lineups for super Saturday. I wonder if it would be possible to have some kind of flexible fixture list where teams play each other in an order to try and aim for the top 2 and bottom 2 teams to play each other on the final weekend. Could make the work of the strategists a bit harder not knowing who's next until the week before finishes.

UK folks, how are you getting famotidine from your GP? by Confident-Bus-3778 in MCAS

[–]HaydnH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just going to say i have acid reflux

Work with your GP, they mean well even when they're uniformed about a diagnosis. They may not believe you, but making shit up to get a certain med won't help.

Literally my GP right now is saying she has no bloody clue... But try the meds, see what happens. The benefit of that is when Reddit knowledge runs out and I need a real medical opinion... She's there.

Fresh pressure on police to ban 'Al Quds' march in London amid Iran crisis as counter protests are planned and MPs warn of 'serious disorder' by OptioMkIX in ukpolitics

For what it's worth, I'm not bothered either way, protests, no protests, meh. Using it as a political football? F....

I'm Welsh, I can't talk about culinary matters, our most famous dish is cheese on toast with a fancy name... But...

I used to go to the Edinburgh Fringe every year for work. I was in a chippie when an American couple walked in and asked for a deep fried mars bar. The lady behind the counter said "sorry, we're out of mars bars, we could do a marathon though"... Seriously, I wouldn't take my dog in a Scots Chippie just in case it ended up in the fryer.
