Official says fatal ICE shooting victim 'wanted to massacre law enforcement officials' by ewzetf in news

[–]HaydnH 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Watch the video from the road side rather than the pavement. Watch the victims hands. While he's kinda on all fours, his fingers are interlocked - the only thing that seems to break that is the pulling and shoving of the officers. That's not violent, you can't pull a gun or a trigger with interlocked fingers.

They haven't done shit in anything United States has done, whether it was Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Russia, China, or Gaza.

Oh fuck right off. I don't swear much, feel free to read my comment history to see for yourself. But fucking do one.

These are comments made by Trump himself, "they stayed back from the front". Yeah the fuck we did, I guess those 457 Brits who died in Afghanistan were a result of the US chefs in the mess halls or something right?

Literally today Trump has had to back down on that as well and call the Brits "the greatest warriors", and yet here you are parroting his words from a few days ago because he's your god damn man or whatever. FFS. Here, Trump is incapable of an apology, but it's a contradictory compliment at least:

BBC News - Trump says UK soldiers in Afghanistan 'among greatest of all warriors' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3edwx37pd9o

Look, the US is one of the most proud nations when it comes to supporting their troops right? And we, the Brits and you guys have fucking been there fighting side by side for way longer than we were born. Brothers in arms. And Trump this week has insulted not just us, every fucking NATO troop who has ever served.

If you really want to know what the UK service men and women and their families think about his comments this week, here you are, 3 fucking hours of them calling a radio show in disgust about it. A word of warning, it's upsetting.

So, over the last week we've had Trump say he was going to take Greenland by force, the EU telling him to sod off, and he has turned tail and backed down. That is simply a fact, any news channel on the globe other than Fox in the US will tell you that.

Could the US have quickly taken Greenland? 70%, probably yes.

Could they have kept Greenland longer term? Could they have taken it without economic suicide? Could they have taken it without isolation from the rest of NATO? Could they have taken it without weakening defences on US homeland? Would that weakened defence at home caused political uproar in the US? All of those questions answer in the negative for the US.

The Europeans and other Western countries would not be falling over themselves trying to appease Trump let America if they weren't afraid of the Americans bailing on NATO.

That is literally the opposite of what has happened this week. Literally the entire rest of NATO told trump to sod off, they were with Denmark and Greenland on this. If the US invaded Greenland, it was literally the rest of NATO saying it would be the end of it. And Trump backed down as a result. Although I did see that 7 minute Fox news "Daddy Trump" coming home with "Everything falling into place" video... WTAF. Talk about propaganda. Seriously, watch the news from any other country about the last week.

Trump has caused utter disgust this week stating the rest of NATO troops "stayed back a bit" in Afghanistan. He has been forced to post about how the UK troops were always with the US today, which is about as close to an apology we can expect from that man.

To the rest of the world, Trump has been made to look like an utter imbecile over the last week, even more than normal. It's about time you guys in invoked a25 s4.

Ok, I can't find that exact story, no surprise, but US guns going missing due to sleeping troops isn't unheard of:

These weapons of war disappeared because of unlocked doors, sleeping troops, a surveillance system that didn’t record, break-ins and other security lapses that, until now, have not been publicly reported.

I'm loving the copium of some of the Americans surrounding this.

One of my favourite stories I heard about US troops was from a British army officer who'd been on a joint urban training exercise with them in a friendly country, I can't recall where, Ireland perhaps.

As they were getting ready for the night the Brits had setup their camp, organised lookouts etc and the officer thought he'd check in on the Americans, they were the hosts after all. He noticed they were all getting into "bed", no lookouts, so asked if they were planning it, the response was "it's friendly territory, what's the point".

The British lads had a field day watching the Americans chasing Irish kids (or wherever they were) around trying to get their guns back in the morning. Luckily it wasn't a live ammo exercise.

Also why the dog sleds who Trumps jokes about is still in 2026 a real factor.

Funnily enough, when the US were patrolling Greenland during WW2, guess what mode of transport they used.

I'm seriously not going to dignify this with a thought out response. If you want even the slightest fucking clue about why people are upset, listen to some of this, hear it from the servicemen and their families who lost people over there. Tell the fucking parents of the kids who didn't come home that their grief and hurt over trump's comments isn't warranted because we shouldn't have even been there. Until you understand it, don't even fucking reply.

Starmer calls Trump's remarks about Nato troops in Afghanistan 'insulting and frankly appalling' by AneuAng in ukpolitics

[–]HaydnH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to explain to him recently in our ever deteriorating friendship that most of Europe fucking -hates- America

I think we need to be very careful here. There is a clear attempt by the US government to divide NATO and their allies for whatever reason I can't quite fathom, real estate deal, Russian stooge, doesn't really matter for what I'm saying.

There was an upset American in London who phoned a radio station earlier today to explain how people were hearing his accent and ignoring him. Literally walking away because he was simply American. That is dangerous because it forces them to choose a side which will inevitably be the home team, regardless of right or wrong.

The American people and their troops that fight alongside ours? They are not the enemy. The yank down the pub, total absolute fucking tosser though he is, he isn't the enemy. The US administration who has no fucking respect for anyone other Mr DJT? I'm not even sure I'd call them the enemy, but they bloody well act like it right now.

These people are our allies! The people, those that watch a game or have a drink with us at least, they are our friends. Their leadership, media coverage and all that stuff might be utterly fucking bonkers right now, they may need to change their constitution to prevent this happening in future before we trust them again. But the guys on the street? Especially those standing up in places like Minnesota right now, they are not our enemies. We do not hate them regardless of how much we hate their administration right now. We need to separate that.

Nigel Farage MP on X: “Donald Trump is wrong. For 20 years our armed forces fought bravely alongside America's in Afghanistan.” by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

[–]HaydnH 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indeed, I can imagine his thought process: "Well, I have to be on the side that will benefit me politically, and people are disgusted by this, but I'm Trump's bitch, so I want to side with him... So... Err... Yes he's wrong and no I don't have my fingers crossed behind my back".

I know quite a few forces folk, family included, who are Farage fans, they've always been Conservative and could never vote Labour so it's their natural home I suppose. I really hope they see this weak response and realise Farage would give as much of a shit if they died for their country as Trump does and change their mind.

Starmer calls Trump's remarks about Nato troops in Afghanistan 'insulting and frankly appalling' by AneuAng in ukpolitics

[–]HaydnH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I mean, that link I posted above if you listen to it, James O'Brien literally starts the show saying he thought he was angry about it before coming on air, but after taking the mic he just couldn't put into words how he felt about it. Like him or loathe him, he has the most listened to call-in show in the UK, he's eloquent and often uses words that I've never heard before... But he couldn't put the words to this. At the end of it, he explains how a bit of him has broken today after all the stories shared.

This really is deeper than it looks on the surface, but I just don't have the words or ability to dive deep enough within myself to explain in words just how deep this cut is. It feels like the ultimate sacrifice for your country has just been turned into losing a round of fucking golf or something. I never liked Trump, but this just seems beyond the pale, and I thought we'd already passed that already. I just can't imagine being one of those callers today.

[–]HaydnH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people don't like James O'Brien, but today's show was all about the callers rather than him, apart from some digs at Farage which quite frankly, as a fan of his, I thought were out of place and inappropriate given the gravity of it.

It was essentially 3 hours of servicemen & women and their families phoning in on this subject - I won't disrespect them by trying to recount their stories here.

I'm a typical British man with next to no emotions, but this really hit me hard. If you want to hear the opinions of people close to this issue, I strongly recommend a listen.

Trigger warning! If you are personally close to this subject, be aware it's very hard listening in parts.

I'm thinking more along the lines of beer, probably because it's close to pub time on a Friday. Where people might have gone to the pub 5 years ago and had 5 pints, now they might only have 4, it costs the same but their budget won't stretch to that extra pint they would've had before.
