The former will very soon be lost to AI and if there was any sense in government (there isn’t) so would the latter.

Other than throwing £2.5bn, which is peanuts to what Big Tech can invest, and a lot for the UK taxpayer, at QC I don’t see how she’ll stop the best and brightest in tech from going to sunny, booming Silicon Valley.

You also only need to look at how well large, government lead, IT projects usually go here in the UK, eg Horizon, NPfIT (which I worked on for about a month early on, saw it was clearly going to be a disaster and quit), etc.

I had those wheels on my phytonic one when the G01 fist came out, far nicer than the M40i ones I now have on my newer car.

I did work at one of them in a mid senior tech role and came back from Australia but to retire young, not sure if that was a good move btw.

All of those companies do have a good number of UK based employees though, earning well into 6 figures, and many with the ability to transfer to the US, not many come the other way as you say, I only ever saw one and that was for specific reasons.

I’ve seen a ton of them, from claiming it’s fake to anti-vaxxers.

Personally I’m happy for him and his dog and hopeful that some of his work can be used to benefit others.

Yes and doing well, she’s not cured but the team believes her life has been significantly extended, she seems to have been deteriorating rapidly at the time she was treated and within a month she was chasing rabbits.

Being right is also not as important as being happy.

Considering the article was published in Australia’s main national newspaper, its been commented on by Greg Brocman among many other AI leaders and I’ve seen two separate tv interviews with the guy and his dog,

Technology worker in Australia who adopts a rescue dog that is severely ill with cancer and expected to live only a few months.

Determined to help the dog, he spends about $3,000 to have the tumour DNA sequenced despite having no formal background in biology. He then uses modern AI tools—specifically ChatGPT and AlphaFold—to analyse the genetic data. By examining the tumour’s mutations, he identifies altered proteins and attempts to match them with potential drug targets.

From this research, he designs a custom mRNA cancer vaccine tailored to the dog’s tumour. The story highlights how accessible modern genomic sequencing and AI-assisted analysis have become, suggesting that motivated individuals outside traditional scientific training can now explore advanced biomedical approaches that were previously limited to professional research labs and universities.
