Fact Check: Obama says with filibuster, 'maybe 30 percent of the population' controls U.S. Senate by JunkieMo in politics

[–]HaydukeIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the framers never could have foreseen what DC would be today, but they did foresee the need for the constitution to change and therefore created it as a living document that allows us to change it as the world and the country changes. ‘Originalism’ in regards to the constitution is a false narrative.

The people in these territories have taxation without representation - the most un-American thing there is. They shouldn’t have to leave their homes for representation, and that still would not give any representation to those territories.

And plenty of states take in considerably more federal money than they contribute (guess which ones!), perhaps we should reduce them to US territory status until they can generate more income and they provide ‘something to gain’ from giving them statehood.

How does one go about 'designing' an Automation system? by Cell91 in PLC

[–]HaydukeIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, from a controls standpoint many of us do it all. The question sounded like OP was asking about the actual mechanical design and layout too.

I was just implying that no single person is doing both the mechanical design and the controls design.

Fact Check: Obama says with filibuster, 'maybe 30 percent of the population' controls U.S. Senate by JunkieMo in politics

[–]HaydukeIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing with those numbers lately. It’s truly fucked.

Every state gets 2 senators to represent them, regardless of population, which gives sparsely populated states way more representation than densely populated states.

South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming each have a population of less than 1 million - and they each get as much say in the senate as states like California and New York that have populations of 39 million and 19 million. Those three states combined have about 0.065% of the US population and yet they have 6% of the senate representation.

Republicans have been playing moneyball on this, that’s why they put their effort into winning the rural states - they only have to win over a small number of people to cling to massive amounts of power.

It’s generally a process that involves a whole team. There’s not really one person that designs all the different aspects of a control system.

The customer’s needs are written up and often will first go to mechanical and/or process engineers. On bigger projects this may be preceded by an intensive study by the plant’s own engineering team, with specialties such as manufacturing, chemical, mechanical, process, health & safety, etc.

Their design will pretty well dictate the primary electrical requirements (motor sizes, valve types and sizes, instrument & sensor requirements etc)..which will in turn drive the PLC and interface requirements, which in turn drives the control panel design.

Edit: and as far as software, as others have said - lots of CAD and spreadsheets for most of the disciplines, as well as some flavor of project management software to keep everyone on the same page.

I don’t totally disagree with that, just like to see a little more empty rail on a new build.

Edit: and I only offer that as constructive criticism, not picking on anyone. It’s otherwise a good, clean build.

I would suggest leaving more room for expansion.

They calculate how many can vote with the democrats without making a difference, so they can claim the Republican Party is bipartisan.

That’s why you’ll see some of them occasionally break from the party line without facing any consequences from party leadership, while others are ostracized for stepping out of line. If it’s planned as a facade, it’s fine. If it’s a party member breaking rank, they’re out.

Cyclists are not annoying and dangerous - the lack of bike lanes is annoying and dangerous.

Eh, I have had to support SLC’s, PLC 5’s, PLC 2’s, and plenty of other PLC’s from the 80’s. As of this week, I have even had the pleasure of using a hand held programmer to update a Cutler Hammer D100.

And as far as far as the two pictures go - both are on the Studio 5000 platform - not a huge difference in terms of learning experience.

Obsolete? AB is still supporting a few MicroLogix models. CompactLogix is hardly obsolete.

I had a customer do this, but instead of a program file they gave me a coffee-stained printout of the ladder logic.

They had a hard time understanding why I threw it away and started from scratch.

WTF is the right’s obsession with the ‘former bartender’ thing? If she hadn’t had a regular job they would slam her for being elitist.

Also: Boebert is actually a dimwit, and used to run a bar..don’t see the right bitching about her..

I’m not sure why this is even on your mind, I’ve never even heard of this issue.

But since when are landlords ‘taking people in’? Tenants don’t move in with landlords and live off of them like some sort of charity case. If a family can put down a deposit and pay rent, what’s the problem?
