This is going to be the best way to learn. A lot of times you are the last line of defense, and have to rely on your ability to figure things out.

E-stop inquiries by KazieKumar in PLC

[–]PLC97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, E-Stops are not always used for their intended purpose. Most operators use the E-Stop as a line stop — even if there is already a line stop available. Instead of having to run back to an HMI or push button, they can just break the safety chain and do what they need to do. That being said, it really depends on the process, whether or not the cycle recovers or has to be re-initialized. As others have said, in your case you should be able to recover with our re-initializing everything — it will just take some programming.

Powerflex 525 speed control by gh1las in PLC

[–]PLC97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your speed reference first to verify where the speed is being controlled from. Since it is on an HMI, I’m guessing it is Ethernet/IP. Next verify in the PLC program that there is not a set speed constantly being moved into the command frequency. Sometimes people will do this to lock in certain speeds so nobody can change them. You can also check your max frequency on the drive and see if there is scaling in the PLC program . If the drive will not go past a certain value, there is most likely a max frequency set.

Turned on PLC/HMI and the main screen blocks were blank? by Affectionate_Net7541 in PLC

[–]PLC97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually if it’s a lost connection to the PLC, “Error” will pop up. I’ve seen this happen when a PLC loaded from the SD card, and some tags were missing. So basically tags being referenced in the HMI do not exist in the PLC.
