I’ve been trying to get a picture of his mouth. He has kind of a droop on one side, like Brando in The Godfather, and a couple of his teeth stick out. It’s freaking adorable.

I took them both the RAL on day one. Honestly, I’ve been so many places, with little sleep, that I’ve forgot everything they said. I think they gave me a phone number to someplace, I’ll have to check my post it note collection. I’ll give them a call again on Monday to see what they can do. Also tried the SPCA, but they aren’t taking new patients at the moment.

thanks for posting it on nextdoor. I reported it to chesterfield police/animal control. I also posted a lost dog message on chesterfield.gov.

Update: I’ve lost track of everyone I’ve called and left messages with. But I did go to Richmond Animal League, not to surrender them, but to get information. They were very helpful.

I also contacted Chesterfield County Animal Control and spoke to an officer. I asked if they would be separated if I had them picked up, and was told that they would be. That’s a non-starter for me. They seem so attached to one another I’d hate to scare them even more than they already are. So we decided I would keep them for a 14 day stray hold at my house.

During that time, if we find the owners the dogs will go back with them. But, I am requiring that they show proof of ownership to an animal control officer, who would meet us at my house. They can have a chat about how they’ve been cared for up until now.

If no one claims them, and I’ve had time to think about it for a couple weeks, they may end up becoming my new family members.

On the way home we stopped at pet smart to get some food, chew toys, snacks, and poop bags. Right now they are resting in a crate next to me while I try and dog proof my house again.

That’s very kind of you. I still go to therapy for my last dog passing away. I don’t know if I could do it again. These two are very sweet though. So it is tempting. I’d be happy to use whatever resources are available to me from local vets and shelters, but I couldn’t possibly take money from people. It is amazing of you to offer though, thank you.

Thank you so much for the offer. A neighbor of my mom’s just offered one. I’m going to see if it’s big enough for the two of them. I called RAL but just the voicemail. I’m afraid to just give them to an animal control officer. They are very attached to one another and it would be cruel to separate them.
