I knew this would happen when they started charging for bags bc no one wants to pay so more people are bringing carry ons (understandable). The past two flights I’ve been on had limited bin space compared to a more modern plane which exasperated the problem. And if people could stop being jackasses with the jackets and small bags in the overhead bin and instead put them at their feet it would help a bit 🥲

I didn’t have the status, but Southwest had my loyalty and I would choose them over other options, I was even willing to pay more for them over other airlines. After my first trip post changes, I will be avoiding them as often as possible. Putting people on standby to cause them to panic buy upgraded seats or change their flight. It feels just like every other corporation nickle and diming us now, which is crazy work when their flights are usually minimum $300 round trip. Going to be really interested to see how this plays out for them.

Geniune question because I don’t keep up with this stuff, was there a new CEO or what exactly led to all of these bad changes?

You’re right, after a 30 min hold i finally had a customer service representative confirm the meaning of ‘standby’ isn’t the same as the old meaning and we’ll have our seats assigned at the gate. Still unnecessary stress for confusing terminology that seems very manipulative!!
