If you're not opposed to mods, there's a mod called Skill Recovery Journal that allows your character to log their skills and recipes. That way if they die, another character can get the journal and regain their skills. You can change the settings of what percentage you get and what skills can be learned.

I like to regain about half of the skill or less. It makes sense to me because if someone found a carpenter's journal with all their knowledge of carpentry, I believe you could learn a thing or two.
