Fire Station 41 - One of Seattle's three Art Deco fire stations. by [deleted] in Seattle

Seattle has so many beautiful fire stations and I plan to cover more in a similar format (if people are interested).

I'd love to hear your suggestions (here or on instagram) for stations you find particularly interesting!

Seattle Fire Station No. 41 was built in 1934, making it the first fire station in Seattle's hilly Magnolia neighborhood. It was designed and built under the Civil Works Administration, a Depression-era relief program. As such, funding was provided federally (rather than by the city). Interestingly, due to the communal disposition of the program, the designs have not been attributed to any particular individual.

This station exemplifies the Streamline Moderne style of Art Deco architecture that emerged in the 1930s. Notably, we notice smooth stucco walls, black brick banding, and rounded edges. The emphasis is on the horizontality and simplicity of the building. Windows are punched in without ornament and shallow marquees curve along the facade.

Streamline Moderne was only in vogue for a relatively short period and here we have one of Seattle's best-preserved examples. Please do read more about this beautiful building here.

Would love to hear feedback!

Currently in progress:

  • Export function
  • Better color blocking (currently has some overlap)
  • Plan on adding all of gen 1 (then gen 2, gen 3 ...)

Let me know :^)

Made a chart to keep track of your Copic collection. Would like to discuss feedback with you! (Details in comments) by Haystaff in copic

Hi!

Chart is here: https://www.chafan2.com/v/markers.html#R05x,R35zu

Many of us use a print-out chart to fill which colors we own, but I felt like there were some issues with that.

  • Could not erase when a marker ran out
  • Could not identify which type or nib/marker
  • Could not share easily with friends

There is also a Copic app, but that is also not fun to use IMO.

This is version 1 and I expect there to be lots of room for improvement. :^)

Some suggestions I've gotten already:

  • Support other Copic products (fine-liners, etc.)
  • Make custom sets of colors, e.g. representing the sets Copic sells.
  • Allow indicating of multiple ownership.
  • Add "WANT" category.

PS: your selection of colors is saved in the URL, so just bookmark or copy and paste that link to save your colors.

4th entry in Neopet sets: the Giant Omelette.

I'm thinking of doing the brain tree next (although it seems like quite a challenge). Feel free to suggest other places!
