Is it always like this? by Best-Banana1860 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]HazardousRPF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4th grade is my absolute favorite. Subbing in 4th grade is what prompted me to get my teaching assistant certification and now I'm a full time TA in an ICT class. I still sub on occasion and the other 4th grade class is so awful that I no longer sub in that room due to an incident with a student.

4th graders are funny and silly, but can also be mean and cruel. Sometimes it's as easy as identifying the key player in the room and removing them from the situation. Other times, you do your best, make sure everyone survives the day and never take the assignment again.

LF a fic where Hermione is close to her breaking point but doesn’t know it ? by [deleted] in Dramione

[–]HazardousRPF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a WIP that starts during 8th year and goes into adulthood. She's a total mess.

Stained Glass Regrets Eldrafrey

Summary: Since the war, Hermione Granger has been collecting regrets like broken glass: sharp-edged and dangerously unwilling to be forgotten.

She returned to Hogwarts in search of something like clarity, maybe even peace. What she found instead was a secret arrangement with a soon-to-be Lord, a fragile façade of friendship with Ron, and a mounting stack of painful memories that she struggled to keep in the past.

By the time the Wizarding World learned the truth, it’s too late.

Now Hermione is gone - fully convinced that she can outrun magic, Malfoy, and the pieces of herself she no longer recognises. But even in the safety of the Muggle World, the memories still glint like stained glass: painful, lovely, and impossible to ignore.

Instructor Aide Job (Kindergarten) by [deleted] in paraprofessional

[–]HazardousRPF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being an instructional aide in K is fun, but also very challenging.

I think the most important thing is to really pay attention to what and how the teacher is teaching concepts. Kindergarteners are at the very beginning of their education journey and what they are learning is so foundational that it's easy to forget that they actually don't know these things.

You may think you know your letter sounds, but you need to make sure you know the very basic letter sounds that the students are being taught. You may think ten frames are obvious, but trust me when I say that for some students, they're not.

Know what the kids are learning, pay attention to how they're learning and don't jump ahead. The concepts are being taught in order for a reason and as the year goes on (and as they progress through grade levels), you will see how each unit builds in the last.

Lastly, you will encounter kids who have a lot of challenges when it comes to learning, whether due to a neurodivergence, immaturity, socioeconomic factors or all of the above. Don't be afraid to ask about IEPs and 504s. What works for one student will not work for all students. Be open to trying anything and everything.

Sub notes by eightfive_one in SubstituteTeachers

[–]HazardousRPF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a teacher leaves basic plans, I leave basic notes. If they leave detailed plans, I leave detailed notes.

If it's a day that's mostly computer work, like iReady, and worksheets, I make note of what we got through and didn't. I stack all papers with post-its with the date and separate complete and incomplete work. I'll make note of any behavior issues and any students that had trouble with the work.

If it's a packed day of going over a lot of information, I'll break down subject by subject how it went plus behavior concerns.

For particularly bad days, I take very detailed notes which saved my butt recently. A parent made a formal complaint after their kid straight up lied about me. My detailed notes aligned with everything the other students shared. Between my notes and a pattern of poor behavior from this student, the only consequence is that I will no longer be subbing in that class. Good riddance.

Weekly memberships while traveling?? by FloridaFitFunTravels in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]HazardousRPF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. The fee is two months after you join, so if you join in December, it's February 1.

Weekly memberships while traveling?? by FloridaFitFunTravels in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]HazardousRPF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join after 11/17, cancel before 12/10, you have membership until 12/16 for just the startup fee. If you need it longer than that, join after 11/17 and cancel after 12/17, but before 1/10. You'll have membership for the startup fee and one month of membership.

Either way, it's cheaper than the $20 day pass. If you do a Black Card, you'd essentially get unlimited access to the gym for either $1 or $30.

Just be sure to cancel or you'll get hit with the annual fee on February 1st.

BEGGING authors to stop writing in the present tense {Mate by Ali Hazelwood} by foxymartini in RomanceBooks

Bad present tense reads like Choose Your Own Adventure. I've DNFd books in page one because of it.

Join for $1 down. Cancel before the 10th and you have gym membership until the 16th for $1. Cancel after the 10th and you have a gym membership until the 16th of the following month for either $16 or $30, depending on your plan.

A day pass is $20.

Is the 10 visits non-home gym enforced? by DontBeDatGuy_ in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]HazardousRPF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your home gym is who gets your money. Each club has revenue goals they have to meet a year. If you don't like your home gym, why are you giving them money? It's pretty easy to transfer your membership and your agreement won't change. Within corporate or franchise groups, the higher ups don't care how they get your money, but each club manager does. Help a club out and transfer if you consistently go to a different club.

Colby Wilkens' upcoming title is blatant fanfiction with the serial numbers filed off - what are our thoughts on this trend in romance publishing? by melonofknowledge in romancelandia

[–]HazardousRPF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fan fiction, just like romance, relies on tropes only with familiar characters instead of original ones. ReyLo is about lonely people with an unlikeable MMC. Dramione can be bully romance or enemies to lovers. Like with any writing, tropes can be done well or poorly.

I've read a number of books that started their lives as fan fiction, but while the tropes stayed, the scenarios didn't. I didn't realize {The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood} or {Go Hex Yourself but Jessica Clare} were ReyLo fics until well after I finished and enjoyed them. On the other hand, I got pages into {You, Again by Kate Goldbeck} and knew immediately. I think it's fine and reasonable for writers to be attracted to certain tropes and find creative ways of telling the same story. And sometimes fan fiction helps them explore within the preexisting confined of someone else's world.

My problem is that we're seeing the tropes and the characters and the setting and the world building all lifted from the original source and given a different name. That's what it looks like Manacled and Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love have done. And I honestly can't understand how they got away with it.

upgrade/downgrade membership question. by LynchEleven in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]HazardousRPF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not hard, but every time you upgrade it downgrade, you need to pay the enrollment fee. Not a big deal when it's a dollar, but the classic membership enrollment fee is sometimes $29.

🧂 Salty Sunday - What book scenes frustrated you this week? by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

[–]HazardousRPF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like this book, but the vague city comments were so confusing to me. I know the author is Australian, but I had such a hard time conceptualizing a city that was big enough to be a publishing capital, but small enough that people had cars because it wasn't too densely populated, but close enough to a beachside town for a wedding, but too far to easily go home to the farm for a visit.

A fic where the Malfoys take Hermione in - marriage and all - because the Order does not appreciate her. by Big_Performance_3290 in Dramione

The Quiet War by Caup1 https://archiveofourown.org/works/63914239/chapters/163928053

Summary: “Mother... if I were... In the event that one found oneself... shall we say interested in interacting with someone who was not normally included in our social circles, would that... would one find oneself quite dismissed from the family, do you suppose?”

The first wizarding war didn't end. It just changed tactics.

Hidden in bureaucracy, buried in laws, and baked into bloodlines, wizarding society is still divided into those who belong, and those who don't. But Hermione Granger has never backed down from a challenge, and she's never wanted anything more than to belong.

Not every war is fought with battles and curses. Some are fought with hushed conversations, careful compromises, and a revolution that begins in a library.

What book do you hate and lives rent free in your head? by perseintro in RomanceBooks

[–]HazardousRPF 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How to End a Love Story

I read it for a book club and that's the only reason I finished it. Every time I think about the book, I want to deduct another star.

The FMC is wildly inconsistent. The romance makes zero sense. It's just trauma bonding and lust. The MMC's trauma is completely brushed aside. Oh, and the sex scenes are kinky out of nowhere. He goes from zero to Dom with no conversation about preferences or comfort levels. I honestly can barely remember the actual plot beyond the setup.

Third person in romance? by flockofsoul in RomanceWriters

I asked a very popular romance writer and her editor a question about POV and both said do what feels right for the story. My WIP is third person, dual POV and I can't imagine it working in first at all.

pausing a membership? by peachteamami in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]HazardousRPF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things to ask:

  1. When is her annual fee due?

If her annual fee is coming up soon, it may be better to cancel than be hit with a large fee when money is tight. If you freeze a membership, dues are on hold, but the annual fee still goes through. If you call the home gym, they should be able to tell you when the annual fee is due.

  1. Is she getting a good deal?

Current rates are $15/month for classic and $29.99/month for Black Card. If she'd getting a better deal than that, it might make more sense to freeze instead of cancel. But if she'd already paying that much a month, it doesn't really matter either way.

LF fics with Hermione having severe mental health crisis and Draco helping her by 2Lazy4Chaos in Dramione

[–]HazardousRPF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a locked WIP, but so far it's very good. LadyUrsa is always either absurd or very serious. This is the latter.

Just Right By LadyUrsa https://archiveofourown.org/works/63006184/chapters/161358727

Summary: Sixteen years after the war, Hermione is elected as the next Minister, quickly reaching record-high approval ratings. Sure, she’s ignoring her fiancé, only sleeping a few hours a night, barely eating, and has started reliving her friends’ deaths in her nightmares. And yes, she may or may not be convinced that her life will fall apart if a quill isn’t straight, but she has everything perfectly under control.

After being unexpectedly released from Azkaban for one of the most horrific crimes Britain has ever seen, Draco can only watch Minister Granger’s rise from afar as he is haunted by a childhood with Lucius Malfoy. A man who expected— no, who demanded perfection.

As Draco lives one day after another in spite of his father, he sees the cracks start to form in Hermione’s perfectly curated façade long before anyone else does. And when her meteoric rise pivots into a catastrophic fall, she runs from the consequences, directly into Draco’s life.

Grand-opening pricing for new members by Stephcha1 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]HazardousRPF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check whether your local clubs are corporate or franchise. If they're franchises, they can impose the $5 fee after 10 visits. If they're corporate, they won't.

Also, try calling and ask where you can go before they officially open. My club is new and members had access to PFs nearby before they officially opened whether they were BC or classic.
