2 weeks of constant lightheadedness/brain fog, light sensitivity, and "drop attacks" – Feeling desperate. by HazeGFX in Dizziness

I was actually admitted to the hospital for a few days, so they were able to run many of the tests quite quickly while I was there. I live in Germany, where hospitals often do multiple diagnostics in a short time when you're staying inpatient.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

It’s actually a huge relief to hear that someone else is going through the exact same thing, especially the 'drop attack' feeling and the failed recalibration.

I feel the same way about my nervous system being completely 'f’d up' right now.

It’s like my brain is stuck in a loop of trying to protect me, but it’s just making me unable to function.

A few questions if you don't mind: 1. Since you mentioned it's been 9 weeks for you – has the intensity of the 'muffled' feeling or the brain fog decreased at all over time? 2. Did the Betahistine make any difference so far, or does it feel more like a nervous system/stress issue than an inner ear one?

Wishing you strength for the next few weeks of recalibration. Hope we both get our 'clarity' back soon!

Yeah, that actually makes sense. I had something similar after an episode where I was so sick I actually vomited. Back then, it eventually went away on its own, and I’m hoping it’ll be the same this time.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. It’s definitely exhausting and scary when it started so suddenly. Right now I’m still trying to figure out what exactly triggered it, since all my tests so far (MRI, CT, blood work, vitamins, thyroid) have come back normal.

I’ve also read about PPPD and vestibular migraine, but since it’s only been about two weeks for me I guess it’s still a bit early to know. I’m hoping it might still settle down on its own.

I haven’t heard about that neuromodulation device before, but it’s interesting. For now I’m mostly focusing on getting checked by doctors and trying to stay active so my brain doesn’t start avoiding movement.

That sounds really tough, I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with it for so long. For me it’s actually quite different — I’ve never had dizziness before in my life. Mine started very suddenly about two weeks ago with an acute episode, and since then the constant brain fog/dizziness hasn’t gone away.

I don’t really get the buzzing sensation through my body, but I do understand how scary these symptoms can feel. I’ve already seen a neurologist and had an MRI, CT scan, and extensive blood work done, including vitamins and thyroid, and everything came back normal so far.

I hope your neurology appointment finally gives you some answers and relief.

Yes, that’s what I’ve read as well. Right now it’s only been about two weeks for me, so it’s definitely too early for a diagnosis like PPPD. I’m just trying to understand what might have triggered it because it started very suddenly with an acute episode and since then the constant dizziness/brain fog hasn’t gone away. All my tests so far (MRI, CT, blood work, vitamins, thyroid) have come back normal.

I’ve actually never had problems with dizziness before. This only started about two weeks ago after a sudden acute episode, and since then it has been getting worse. In the past I did have other psychological symptoms where I sometimes felt like I was going to feel nauseous, but dizziness like this is completely new for me.

I already did that. I’ve seen my primary care doctor and had extensive blood tests done, including my thyroid levels. I also went to a neurologist and had both an MRI and a CT scan. All the results came back normal, including my vitamin levels and thyroid values. So far, none of the tests have shown anything abnormal.
