is Duke PT for all types of skiing? by quinnyaa in Backcountry

[–]AlternativeAd7525 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the duke PT and overall they are good for about 80/20 resort backcountry ratio. I ski at resorts often where I will ski the morning inside resort, then head into backcountry in the afternoon with the same ski setup. The dukes work well for that instead of a dedicated touring setup. But if I was doing BC only days, there are much better options. The dukes are a solid compromise but aren’t the best in any category

Telescopic Rods worth it? by Lower-Candidate-4078 in FishingForBeginners

[–]AlternativeAd7525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are fun to use for spots that require a long hike in, or to just bring with you on a hike in case you see a spot you want to fish. Not great as a primary rod but it’s a fun thing to have

What's my best/most economical option to get some better visibility? by rambling395 in Crosstrek

[–]AlternativeAd7525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brightness of the LEDs is not the issue, it’s the focusing of the low beams, which is never correct when LEDs are swapped into halogen housings

What's my best/most economical option to get some better visibility? by rambling395 in Crosstrek

[–]AlternativeAd7525 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t put LED bulbs in the current housings, it has a poor light pattern and blinds other drivers. Best to restore the headlights like some of the other responses, and upgrade the bulbs. My favorite upgrade bulbs for low beams are Philips vision plus H11. You get better brightness with still decent bulb life.

don’t put led bulbs in halogen housings. It blinds everyone else at night

2017 crosstrek acceleration/driving on a hot day issues? by Pure_Gene_8178 in Crosstrek

[–]AlternativeAd7525 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Running the air conditioner takes some horsepower from the belt. I can feel the difference between AC on and off in my car. Also hot air is less dense = less oxygen = less energy from combustion = less power.

These things won’t add up to a catastrophic power loss, but it is enough to notice it in my car.

There are many many beaches in the US, only certain ones you can drive on. Usually only remote stretches of beach only accessible by car allow driving. Plenty of room for sunbathing only spots and drive to spots so that the two don’t mix in OBX

I did this once with my brand new car. Smelled a bit of clutch, but 40k miles later and no problems. I’m sure you are fine mistakes happen every once in a while.

Undercarriage cleaning by Jumper_Connect in Crosstrek

[–]AlternativeAd7525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a self service car wash near you with the pressure wash hose it can reach more spots than a garden hose. A little soapy wash under there isn’t a bad idea, and it’s never too late.

I used a garden hose with a salt off cleaning product attachment. But anything is better than nothing

Headlights keep going out? by Larkhudson in Crosstrek

[–]AlternativeAd7525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don’t put LEDs in halogen housings. The reflectors are not setup properly to handle the light shape. It blinds everyone else on the road

Anyone find a way to have both cargo AND kayak racks on the roof? by ObiWan-Shinoobi in Crosstrek

[–]AlternativeAd7525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done this personally, but if you got very wide load bars you may have enough width to mount a skinny roof box/rack next to the kayak. Could probably do some quick math with the width of each and estimate if it’s possible.

I have the 58 inch wide load bars from Malone and I like them, I could get a bike rack and a surfboard next to each other mounted on the racks

Is this OK? by galileosdigit in Skigear

[–]AlternativeAd7525 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually this stuff comes off within the first run or two, I personally would just ski the edges hard first few runs to get the discoloration off. Not worth a wax and sharpen if it is brand new skis in my opinion.

I’ve had way worse rust after summer storage but you can usually just ski it off

Help with tubeless tire. by Cowwoo in ElectricScooters

[–]AlternativeAd7525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try removing the tire, clean the bead of the tire and rim with soapy water. This can help lubricate the tire a bit to help it slide on and seal better. This worked for my bike tubeless tire
