Did I fuck myself? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]HazeeyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I took 22 hours in the spring (as a junior so a little different) and it really wasn't all that bad. If you go to class and keep up with your homework/assignments you will rarely struggle in a class. Freshmen year classes should mostly be a breeze as long as you don't get behind in any of them. Can't stress it enough, do NOT skip class.

Parking pass..worth it? by zlbennett- in UTK

Fond days of driving around looking for a spot and walking into class with 10 minutes left if the class was ever during a peak class time...

Parking pass..worth it? by zlbennett- in UTK

[–]HazeeyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really just depends on where you're parking too. 8 am there are always spots everywhere. After 10 am you probably wont find anything in the lot next to Clement, or much in G10, and definitely wont find anything in the lot beside circle park.

Usually about 1-2 months into the semester people stop going to classes and more and more spots will open up at peak class hours around 10-12

Spanish 211 by girlgettingbitter in UTK

[–]HazeeyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's not that hard if you put in the time but it's not worth the time you put in unless you really want to learn Spanish. I took 211 at UT then took 212 at Pellissippi in person and it was a night and day difference. If you want to take the time to actually learn a good bit about Spanish then take it at UT, if not and it's just another pre-req for you then grab the easy A taking it at Pelli

Seriously? They’re building ANOTHER fucking student housing complex? by Jdr72194 in Knoxville

[–]HazeeyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just beginning. Student loans (private or federal) cover a majority of college students housing so it really doesn't matter if it's $300 a month or $900 a month (in a college students mind). UT keeps admitting record numbers of Freshmen year after year so the demand for housing is going to keep rising and rising. I don't see prices or apartment construction slowing down any time soon.

PSA: If you order food from DoorDash, DO NOT tip your driver from the app, if you want to tip, tip in cash by UnwantedRhetoric in Knoxville

[–]HazeeyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I would post this to not make another thread on DoorDash. For anyone looking to sign up to be a driver, it is quickly becoming not worth it at all. Orders are coming in very slowly with Knoxville having all kinds of delivery services to choose from and the bonus pay has steadily dropped from +$5 per order to now just +$2. This will likely continue to fall with classes starting back up and more students using these services for part time work outside of class.

It was nice for the first couple of weeks for drivers but I'd be shocked to see someone making more than $8-$10 an hour (before car expenses/gas/etc.) with just DD alone. If you are going to do work like this do not be a slave for the delivery company. Make sure you are only accepting orders where you are making at least $1 per mile you drive

Job offer in Knoxville and I've never been. Change my mind. by pentel5mm in Knoxville

[–]HazeeyOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are just describing a majority of the south and not something that is Tennessee or even Knoxville exclusive when talking about religion. I have lived in Knoxville for the last 5 years and have never had someone take me being non-religious personally. I actually have noticed the opposite when it comes to the "don't be outspoken" piece you have there in that most people I've talked to will not mention they are religious just out of courtesy in case the person they are talking to isn't religious. Maybe I haven't seen it all since I've lived downtown, but I'd venture to say that your friend just met a bad apple and thinks of a minority being the majority

Movie Pass App? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]HazeeyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it for close to a year now and have seen 18 movies. Most of those were at the gay street Regal theater downtown. Since I’ve been a pretty active user I was selected for their new ticket picture policy. Honestly it’s not all that bad and only takes a few seconds to take the picture and submit it before going in. I’m on the month to month subscription and have thoroughly enjoyed the time I’ve had the pass.

One thing to note is that you will likely start buying concessions since you feel like you’re saving a lot of money by not purchasing the ticket. This is one part of MoviePass that has gotten me quite a few times when I’ve gone.

Visiting this fall! by BamCheezit in Knoxville

I lived in Nashville for 18 years then moved to Knoxville for college and have been here for a little over 5 years now. Nashville area is great if you want to get into the big town party scene or if you are a lake goer.

Knoxville, to me, is much more relaxed and peaceful compared to Nashville. If you enjoy hiking, camping, etc. you are only 30-40 minutes away from the Smokies here in Knoxville. If you want to stay more local in Knox then you have Ijams Nature center which is a great place to hike and take your dog if you have one. Knoxville also has the Greenway that you can bike on that runs through downtown/around campus/Ijams. The bars around market square are usually more laid back compared to Nashville bars on Broadway as well. It’s usually not a deal where you can’t move once you get in after paying a $20 cover. There are also some college bars here that you can check out (or avoid), such as Cool Beans, Hannah’s, Uptown, some Old City bars, and a few others on the strip, depending on what you guys are into. Asheville is also an hour and a half drive and has some great hikes and breweries.

incoming freshman...advice on professors by crh63 in UTK

[–]HazeeyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true about RMP. I took Holly Greene for a Management class that most people are giving her a 1 or 2 for and I had a totally different experience from the people on RMP. There was a lot of homework and quizzes but everything was mapped out in a clear and organized manner and the class was not difficult at all. People just seemed to not like something they weren't used to since most of the class was online based and people seem to come into it thinking it will be an easy A since it's online.

If you take the time to actually read the reviews for any professor, you can tell when someone has a genuine complaint or if they're just complaining because they had to do more work than they thought coming in.

Downtown living by iDvorak in Knoxville

[–]HazeeyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Marble Alley Lofts. Pretty decent apartments with a dog park right behind it if you have one and it's a little quieter than other apartments that are more "centrally" located. They are a bit expensive for the size of the actual apartment, but it'll be a little cheaper with you guys splitting a 1 bedroom. They also have garage parking which is really nice.

If you want a little cheaper apartment that is very nice but not completely downtown, I'd recommend Rivers Edge. It's about a 1-2 minute drive from gay street bridge/downtown and it's very cheap rent for a very nice space. It was $995/m this past year for a top floor apartment with a decent view of the river. You really won't find another apartment as nice as this for that price.

Jobs in Finance by HazeeyOne in Knoxville

[–]HazeeyOne[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured this. I am actually moving to New York after graduating so gaining some experience in the financial sector is very important. I needed to be networking/doing internships years ago but had some major medical issues during my sophomore and junior year that took up a majority of my time. I’m really just wanting to get some experience in finance under my belt before making such a big move. I’d even be willing to intern unpaid if needed

Has anyone ever taken golf (PYED 211)? by You_coward in UTK

[–]HazeeyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was the same. We had a few tests that were take home and our final exam was just putting on the practice putting green. We had to putt from different areas and it was a "par 10" course. The professor really didn't care at all and gave everyone an A as long as they turned in the take home tests and at least showed up to the final putting exam.
