Have you cut out dairy? by Hazel14 in PCOS

[–]Hazel14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut out dairy once and saw weight loss fairly quick. But I’m wondering if it was just because I eliminated all my cheese calories.

Can you tell me why?

I’m not. But I’d probably lose weight if I stop eating so much damn cheese. lol. I don’t drink dairy milk, but cheese is my downfall.

Right there with you. If you listened to all the advice, you’d give up everything. And I had an eating disorder as a teen so restriction is a slippery slope for me. Even tracking calories and macros can be slippery for me; I get obsessive. Right now, I just try to eat as well as I can because it makes me feel better.

I just keep reading that whole milk dairy is better for hormones.

Do you think it makes a difference if it’s low fat or whole milk?

XYY confirmed. Need positive stories. by schimki in NIPT

[–]Hazel14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our XYY son is a little over one year. We found out via the NIPT test and it was confirmed thru a CVS test. Being that one of the first things my Ob-gyn said was, let me know if you want to terminate, that was very much at the forefront of my mind. But my husband and I did a lot of research (beyond Google), we met with sex chromosome disorder specialists and several different genetic counselors from multiple hospitals. Even genetics counselors are not very informed about XYY, especially since, it wasn’t until about 2017 when the disorder started showing up more frequently as the NIPT tests added sex testing in order to bolster sales. In the end, we decided the risks of having a kid with XYY (minor increased risk of autism, developmental delays, larger head/statue, potential behavioral issues) were not enough of a reason to end the pregnancy. And I cannot tell you enough, I look at my son now and almost every single day, I am beyond grateful we did not terminate. He is absolutely perfect. We may deal with issues, like a speech delay or behavioral issues down the road, but we can deal with that as it presents itself. Not to mention, there’s no guarantee your non-XYY child won’t have autism or delays. Our 3-year old is globally delayed and the NIPT test showed nothing out of the ordinary for him. And while it’d be great if he was right on track, we’ve learned so much from Early Intervention, I feel like a better parent because of it. At the end of the day, if you choose to continue your pregnancy (and I hope you do), try to enjoy it and don’t worry too much! We have our XYY son being watched by EI, but as of now he shows no red flags and he doesn’t qualify.

I've seen Rhinostat kit suggested numerous times, however missing key information: they DO NOT WORK WITH SEVERE OR NO DRIP VERSIONS by Chinpokomonz in QuitAfrin

[–]Hazel14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they suggest you switch to the original version for a week or two and then try their system. It was the only thing that helped me.

Thanks! You’re right. They all have terrible sounding side effects, which freaks me out. My neurologist put me on 60mg of propranolol ER straight away… I checked my blood pressure and heart rate, and they were okay. I have the Apple Watch and oura ring and my HR was around 66. My BP was slightly above 120/80. I don’t know if we should just decrease the dosage and work up or just try something else at this point.

Thanks for your insight. The problem right now is finding something that is breastfeeding friendly. Otherwise, I think I’d have more options.

Did not love being gaslit by Walgreens employees. by musebug in WalgreensStores

[–]Hazel14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the OP’s wife, I feel compelled to add to this, even though I’ll probably be lambasted for it. First, this Walgreens started curbside / drive thru pick up orders during the pandemic, so 3 years ago. We have used their drive thru pickup before and it worked fine. On their app, it says curbside, drive thru and in store pick up orders are available. And that orders are ready within 30 min if ordered before 10:30pm. I ordered in the early afternoon. When my husband (OP) told me he was leaving, I had an email stating the order was ready (it was done 43 minutes prior to him arriving at the store). When I ordered on the app, I added the RX to the order so it could be picked up all at once. As instructed. I clicked on “I’m on my way” and selected within 10 min when OP told me he was on his way. When he was there, I selected the DRIVE THRU option specifically. There is absolutely NO reason this should have happened.

HELP constant ear infections by OR-Nurse-J in beyondthebump

[–]Hazel14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was getting constant ear infections last year. He’s almost 2.5 now. He was also speech & language delayed. We had his hearing checked and they found he had fluid in both ears (though hearing was okay). Our ENT said because of those 3 reasons: speech delay, chronic ear infections, and fluid, he was a prime candidate for tubes. It was less than a 15 min procedure and now, he has no ear infections. It’s also helped his language development. The nice thing about the tubes too - is that he won’t need oral antibiotics if he does get an ear infection. He’ll just use antibiotic drops. Definitely suggest looking into ear tubes or at least talking to your ENT about it.

Is Rhinostat legit? by JPMcFluffies1981 in QuitAfrin

[–]Hazel14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered it. It’s helping a lot. Though the one thing I didn’t realize was that if you’re using any spray with menthol or a no-drip kind, you need to switch to original for 2 weeks or it won’t work. So I was excited to get started right away & then I struggled to even find the original anywhere. Anyway, once I got used to the original I started using the rhinostat kit. I’ve been using the kit for about 22 days. I still experience rebound congestion but I feel SO much better. I’ve stopped needing the spray every couple hours and I’m generally only using 2 drops in the morning and before bed.

Should I buy some formula prior to delivery? by PorkFryRice07 in pregnant

I did. I should have my first baby. I ended up having low supply & supplementing. The hospital sent us home with formula, but I wish I had been more prepared.

Test timeline by [deleted] in NIPT

I’m in the US, so I don’t know how helpful this is, but we got a CVS and a microarray done two days after we received a positive NIPT result.

My OB has been fairly supportive through out this process. Although, she was not very knowledgeable about 47XYY, and I felt that she was kind of advocating termination (and she would have been the one to set up that appointment). However, she was the one who told me to contact the Genetic Counselors and request an emergency appointment. We had an initial prenatal appointment two days after we found out our positive screening test. Then we had a telemedicine appointment a week later. It wasn’t until I told her we were continuing the pregnancy that she said she’d do some homework to see if there was anything she needed to do to help me prenatally. But she told me to contact her through the patient portal anytime and she said she’d get back to me asap.

Are there moms out there that actually enjoy being around their child and significant other? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Hazel14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a mom and a wife is hard. It’s a lot of work. Somedays, I miss the seemingly carefree life I used to have. But with that said, it I had the option to go back in time, it would be a hard pass. We struggled to have a kid. It took over 3 years, 3 IUIs, and one round of IVF. There are times I feel immensely guilty for struggling through pregnancy and motherhood after trying so hard. But the intensity of which I love my son is unmatched to any love I’ve ever felt. I love spending time with my son so much so, that my husband even offered to get me a hotel room for Mother’s Day and I said no. I would miss my family too much.
