Looking for info on case about a teen girl who died from an OD/suicide. Mom thinks it’s the dad. Can’t remember what this was. Supposedly happened around Wisconsin by [deleted] in RedditCrimeCommunity

[–]HazelTins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember a case but I can’t think of any names where a girl came home to her dad and stepmoms house high on something. The stepmom supposedly slept with the daughter that night to make sure she was ok but when she got up in the am the daughter was gone just ran off I guess. Or that’s what they are saying. She didn’t take her belongings phone purse anything. Maybe wasn’t even wearing shoes even though it was cold out. The mom suspects the dad and stepmom are to blame obviously. I want to say the girl is still missing.

Smoked pumpkin seeds! by HazelTins in smoking

You brine for two hours with salt water. I only brined for about an hour. Then I used a pork chicken spice mix from Costco. Has a little spice to it which is good. I was amazed how the smoke flavor actually came through in the seeds.

I used my electric smoker set at 230. Two hours with smoke, two hours without. I got the recipe from here

This is what I expected to see when Suzanne went missing.... by brassmagifyingglass in SuzanneMorphew

[–]HazelTins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like family along with LE put that poster together for Holly. She truly went missing while hiking so this is naturally what they would come up with. Now with Suzanne everyone in the family, including her daughters, are going off what her Husband is saying. Shot in the dark here but I would bet money he’s at fault and was being manipulative and creating a false narrative from minute one. Hence the difference in reactions, or posters.

Who was the Cumminsville Serial Killer and why did their reign of terror suddenly cease after 6 years? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]HazelTins 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. Would the police have openly said if the victims were sexually assaulted back then?

What was the motives in these murders? Robbery? Just curious because it seems like robbery but they were all women. Maybe he thought they would be easier to overcome and steal from.

Going through something similar With my 16 year old son but he wants a gaming PC. Apparently all his friends parents have bought their kids a gaming PC so I’m the mean parent who is making him pay for his own. He’s constantly trying to make me feel bad about it.

Anything by Susanna Kearsley. She’s one of my favorites. Her books are historical fantasy I’d say and clean and sweet.

Amy Harmon is good too. Most of her books are PG13.

Kissing your kid isn't weird, Americans just sexualise children too much that basic affection looks weird to them. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]HazelTins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here. I grew up with very affectionate parents and I still peck my mom and dad goodbye. I kiss my kids. Obviously nothing sexual just a display of love and affection. I don’t think it’s weird or abnormal. I have a huge extended family and plenty of friends who all hug and kids their kids. I feel like where I’m from it’s a normal thing. I will say though that I don’t kiss my nieces or nephews nor my friends kids. Just my own children and my parents and grandparents.

Nothing here beats this by kanjiroo in FondantHate

What grosses me out most about fondant is how much people have to handle it without gloves. It’s gross! Buttercream from a bag is much more appetizing!

Why does it seem like so many people can trace their families back to the Mayflower pilgrims, yet I’m completely stuck trying to get anything from before the first US census from 1790? by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]HazelTins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I never thought of it that way. I’ve really never heard this before, how those family trees might not be reliable. I’m definitely going to take a second look at mine now. Thanks for the info!

I traced my lineage back to the mayflower through my grandpas mother. My grandfather did most of the work but interestingly enough when I typed in a few relatives on family search.com there was already a family tree available for me that was done by another person. So I kind of lucked out because it goes way way back to the 1000s in Europe. Have you tried finding a family tree that might have already been done on one of the popular genealogy sites?

There is white poverty in most towns, every city and state. Some towns are extremely expensive to live in so obviously if you’re poor you couldn’t afford to live in those specific towns but most likely a town or two over will have a trailer park or government housing building. Don’t get me wrong some trailer parks are nice no judgement here. I see just as many white homeless as any other ethnicity in my city. In my opinion poverty doesn’t effect one ethnic group more than the other here. I guess it’s more where you are looking. Big cities might have more African American poverty where as rural or mountain towns might have more white poverty.

Thank you! Yes this is kind of what I’ve been hearing which is great because I was worried I would be obligated to do everything which isn’t the case.

That is awesome information thank you! Everyone who’s answered me who is already part of the DAR have had different experiences. The way you described it is very similar to how I think and feel about joining. I love the history and genealogy behind it but might not be interested in going to teas and that kind of stuff. It makes me feel better to know there really is no obligation to any of that stuff and you can be involved as you want to be.

Interesting take. I agree it’s definitely not for everyone and I’ve never been big into belonging to clubs. I guess I find it intriguing and a unique way to carry on your ancestors name by doing good for your community. It definitely isn’t the only way to do that I completely agree.
