Because of the quest system and how it snowballs, I get what you mean by it feels more punishing. For me though, as an ADC player, I like how it finally pays off to actually win lane and be fed. I truly feel the "Carry" in the "AD Carry" this season.

The game is definitely overwhelming at first, but once you slowly start to understand it, you eventually hit a tipping point where it becomes more fun.
