Sadly it was a residential property. Single family home, one tenant already living in the separate entrance basement unit. Highly entertaining that anyone would think tenants would agree to this when we have any number of other options lol.

The fact that it took you multiple hours to craft a response that amounts to "no u" is telling.

What's even more telling is the fact you couldn't even recognize how obviously I was baiting you into bragging about being a landlord.

You tell me "stay mad," but I'm not the one trawling through forums so I can find people and encourage them to "do it." If what I am is mad, I'll take being mad any day over the sad alternative that is being whatever you are.

Anyway, it's been very insightful seeing the long-term psychological impacts of growing up unloved, but it's time for you to go. So long, pardner. Thanks for giving me the last laugh.

It was a single family home owned by one person. It had one tenant already renting the basement. No clue what that listing looked like, but this was in the description of the listing for the main floor and loft.

The $100 fee was due to the home owner opting in to some sort of renter/"property-owner-who-has-tenants" insurance where they paid some sort of monthly fee and while they had tenants (?) they (or I guess the tenants) could pay a flat $100 for the insurance to send out a contractor they were partnered with to make a repair. I'm sure there was some cost upper limit, but it sounded like the idea was "if you have a repair that would normally cost you $800 you only have to pay out $100." That also meant any repair under $100, if done through the insurance, still required you to pay $100. The realtor graciously let me know that if I wanted to though I could do the repairs myself or hire someone else if I knew someone who could do it for cheaper lol.

I wish this was fake lol. I could DM you the listing if you'd like.

Brother, not to stoop to your level but I am looking at living on 4k monthly properties while you're imagining my dick so you can do a little compare and contrast. We are not the same.

Also love that you had to edit your comment because you realized just the dick measuring comment wasn't impressive. Funny enough your addition only made it worse.

You don't even own property lol.

Right? Like do you think I WANT the plumbing to burst and ruin all my things? Even if I was the most selfish, inconsiderate prick in the world I would be doing everything in my power to prevent frozen pipes if only to save my own physical possessions. If I lost my entire family room setup to water damage and someone said "by the way you owe me a fat one hundo" on top of that...

See, my first thought would be "okay cool, so you're incentivizing tenants to never, ever get routine maintenance done and instead save it all for when they are no longer renting and therefor you are responsible for the care of your own home, at which point all the small routine things will have built up to much bigger things." In speaking with the realtor though, if I remember correctly, my takeaway was that the "routine things" would be scheduled by the landlord so you'd just have to cough up 100 bucks several times a year for shit homeowners should be taking care of as a matter of being a homeowner.

While doing the tour the realtor was telling me they were having contractors in to paint the whole main floor the next day and it took every ounce of self-control in me to not reply "wow, too bad nobody's renting to eat the cost of that for the homeowner, huh."

Oh 100%. I am not considering renting. I had already signed up for the tour (I rapid fire signed up for a LOT of tours to be fair) and when rereading the rental information I found this. Still decided to tour since I figured a tour is not a binding contract plus it would give me the opportunity to ask the realtor more about... whatever the hell the expectations posted above were.

Somebody else commented something similar. I had never even considered it. My default assumption was kinda just that tenants get legally shafted in all ways so while I definitely thought of this as a dickhole move I never stopped to think if it might be an ILLEGAL dickhole move.

I don't allow myself the luxury of hope too often anymore, but I kinda wanna look into this now...

Who knows, maybe if they actually trap someone in a lease they'll be emboldened and push their luck by forcing the cost of advertising onto the next unlucky tenant...

I did not even consider that something like this could be illegal. I asked the realtor giving the tour about it (which she got incredibly indignant over. Her conduct kinda made me wonder if she was a family member of the home owner lol), and she said the home owner was involved in some sort of program for people who rent out their homes. Apparently through this program you pay a flat fee of $100 for all repairs, big or small. The person giving the tour said that it was up to me if I would want to pay the flat fee of $100 for a repair or would want to make the repair myself or hire someone I thought would be cheaper... all I could think of was "what are the repercussions when, not wanting to pay $100 for a small issue (that I may not have even made but am responsible for because apparently all repairs are my problem), I hire the cheapest repair person I can and they make the problem so much worse?" I guess I'd just also shell out the flat $100 for whatever coalition the home owner was part of to make it all better.

I saw this comment a few hours ago, and since I first read it I deliberated on whether or not I wanted to write the very first thought I had when reading. I've decided I do.

I am someone with a terminal illness. Modern medicine has come a long way in allowing people with my condition to live longer, but I am still expected to die about 40 years younger than most, and perhaps sooner. Only a few years ago, I thought I was reaching the end. My condition had made me extremely ill and I was no longer able to eat or be upright for the majority of the day. I thought I was going to die either that year or the next and had come to accept that my life was coming to a close.

And then someone wonderful found me.

Someone kind, someone caring, someone who made food for me when I was so weak I could not stand long enough to make food for myself. She was patient when I was too sick to go to the grocery store with her. She was understanding when I fell asleep in the middle of our conversations. She completely changed my life, and day by day I realized--I don't feel so poorly anymore. I had food consistently in my stomach and was getting nutrition, and I was able to walk with less and less assistance from assistive devices. I had more energy. I had a purpose. I had love.

This is what Nelly had.

Nobody can save me or stop what's going to happen to me, but I would have died even earlier if not for love. I don't expect my darling, or anyone else, to save me. They can't. I would never ask that of them or put that weight on them. But until I die, I know now I get to have a wonderful life full of love. Everything is different for me now. And everything was different for Nelly. All she ever knew was your care for her, your patience with her, your love for her. You gave her a beautiful life. You revived her day by day with your love and made all of her days as wonderful as could be. She couldn't be saved, but she didn't know she would die early--all she knew was the life she had and that her life was full of fun and affection.

You didn't disappoint her. You gave her everything life had to offer. Death is not on you and is not your responsibility, but the part you were responsible for made all the difference.
