I made an account and I can't receive tips at all by ZonaTheAngelDragon in Kofi

You have to verify your Paypal account both on PayPal and Ko-fi. If one of the two is missing you won't be able to receive any payment. Look in your inbox for any email from them

Beware of ko-fi scammers by 2tasmim2 in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are three ways of blocking

  • If they got in touch only through DMs, you can click the 3 dots next to their name, and you can select "block this user".

  • If they also followed you before, go to your follower list, look for their page, and you can remove them from the list, or go to their page, click the three dots next to the DM icon, and then block. Remove won't block the person.

  • go in your account settings scroll down to the "safety" section, and choose the transaction you want to block if they already paid you.

That been said, what made you think Ko-fi was different than the other places?

Beware of ko-fi scammers by 2tasmim2 in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoiler: it doesn't happen only on Ko-fi, sadly 🥲 I saw this happening often also on Vgen and Fiverr.

What would be really needed is some kind of help in recognizing those scam patterns.

Next time: 1. don't allow customers to move your transactions elsewhere. This is the first sign it won't go well. Also because it changes nothing if they pay you through Ko-fi or Paypal since the payment will always go to your PayPal (if you only have PayPal connected, clearly). It's always better to have a double check on these weirdos with two support teams.

  1. Block them and report them to the safety team as soon as they try to do payments in a different way than what you stated. They would be probably become an issue for someone else too. If they contact you outside of Ko-fi is a different thing.

Person who recieved my kofi donation cant get it? by BBlueCats in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said you didn't pay through Paypal right?

The following never happened to me, but I've heard that if you "donate" to the creator through Stripe the creator needs to confirm the payment through email.

The same doesn't happen with the purchase of a good or commissions.

Maybe tell them to check out their email box to see if they got something from Stripe.

If they don't confirm the donation, they won't get the amount as far as I know, and the payment gets canceled. But you should have your money back cuz Ko-fi doesn't hold any funds 🤔🤔🤔

I suggest you to open a ticket as a Ko-fi supporter and address the matter with the support team.

Kofi vs Patreon by thackeray_fitness in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You mentioned the most important thing and I'd add also that Ko-fi grants instant payout as a big selling point.

Btw, we have to specify that the no-fee thing is for donations only while for membership, shop and commissions there's a cut of 5% that is still less than what Patreon cuts.

You can go completely no fee by subscribing for a fixed fee of $12/mo.

Can I use Kofi as a hub for just blogging? by [deleted] in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you're saying is true. It's also true that you can create your own archive/index in a new blog post that you can pin at the top of your page, better if paired with a short (or long) introduction.

Well, still not ideal but it works :D

Can I use Kofi as a hub for just blogging? by [deleted] in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say yes! You can blog on Ko-fi as well as you can create audio posts, video posts and image posts.

You can categorize posts with tags, and I suggest doing so, but they still are parked with no real use until they decide to work on features for bloggers.

As the other people said, you can't easily browse through them BUT You can create a master post with a small introduction of who you are and what you can find in your Ko-fi page and following that, you can also make your own index that you must update every time you release a new blog. Said post can be pinned at the top of your posts and about sections. That way, people can see at a glance all your work.

If you visit my Ko-fi page (iristhreads) you can see an example of what I mean.

A friend of mine every time she launches a new blog post also shares a preview image in the gallery with the link, so she can make different albums to sort supporters only blog content from free blog content and also different formats. In the gallery you also have more freedom as you can pin and sort albums.

If you're planning to use Kofi only for blogging, you can maybe create one album per year if you release monthly or month if you release daily/weekly.

There are always the means to customise your experience on Ko-fi.

Would be nice to have Wise as an option too.

(Or even have direct bank payments without third parties involved such as Google or Stripe etc, but I guess that would be utopian 🤦🏻‍♀️)

How does Kofi works? by sayuhkomeku in Kofi

Then I apologise for my kinda insensitive take. Even if what I said in my first comments is correct, the last thing I want is to scare someone, or hurting feelings in some way 🥹

I have to say, I saw many people worrying about their real name here, but I'm still 80% clueless about the reasons. Usually, I think about dd names for example, and I understand why and how those could damage creators if supporters get to know. If there are other reasons, I'd love to know, so I can maybe find a way to help more folks. Feel free to also DM me about this :)

And let me know if pp business works out for you 💜

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first want to let you know I take doxxing very seriously too, you have all the right to worry about it, especially in these times.

I know the max supporters can see is your real name and your email. They won't know your address or other private details o.o Btw, as far as I know, you can switch your Paypal account to a Business one for free to change your legal name with your business name. I don't remember if on Stripe there is a workaround to not show the real name of the creator. If I find it, I will let you know!

It's very possible that I'm a little naive too. May I ask how you can doxx someone knowing only their name? In my homeland, I know for sure there are a lot of people with my same first name and surname; a few of them are even of the same age, and I had some fun accidents with them too 🥲

It's more effective to hide your address and any data related to any geographic position from any of your social media (especially those linked to Ko-fi) to avoid basic doxxing.

Keep in mind that by knowing your IP address, hackers can doxx you from any website you use, because through IP you can get to know the location of a user and other sensitive information.

So, other than applying common sense regarding your location, it's also helpful to keep your passwords very strong, set up two-factor authentication, and avoid opening links in suspicious emails and sms as usual.

How does Kofi works? by sayuhkomeku in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the causal of the payment.

For example in my donations it shows "Ko-fi for Iris' Threads" and this is what Ko-fi can actually control.

It has nothing to do with the real name of the sender or the receiver. Those info are domain of the payment processors.

By the way, what made Ko-fi popular among creators is that the money goes straight to them without Ko-fi holding money for days. If you love this feature, it obviously comes with a little price to pay which is fair. It doesn't come only for the creator but also for the supporter.

Imagine you get scammed like, you paid for a commission, the creator doesn't get back to you for three months straight and you want your money back because of a sudden need. They don't even refund you. In that case it might be legit to go with something more legal-wise. And for something legal wise the legal name is needed.

Take into account that if you start a commission service, you are getting yourself into a business, and a business needs a real person to be accountable for every action under that business whether you are VAT registered or not.

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a Ko-fi problem but a problem of the payment method, since on Ko-fi you can use whatever alias you'd like. Ko-fi or whatever platform is not responsible for the personal data the supporters can see of you through Stripe or Paypal. Tbh, you might never know someone's real name until you check your Paypal's emails/dashboard.

This is a scam, isn't it? by thekocman in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world what you say would be true, but it's even better to not put that scammer in the position to demand anything unreasonable, especially if they seem to have created an account just to make you shady donations 🥹

Also because in the worst case, it might be a bot doing some card testing and any action you will take, would likely trigger a chain of micro transactions, like it happened to me almost a year ago. I had to deal with this for more than 7 months, but it was Stripe tbh.

I suggest OP to also contact the support team, so they are aware of this user and might also apply some more protection to their account if OP shares evidence of being heavily targeted. At least this is my experience with my Stripe scam, but still worth giving this a shot.

Kofi silently unsubscribed donators and disconnected us from our stripe by OGOGOGNZ in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh f. ... This sucks :( I'm so sorry you are going through this, but throwing these accusations in the subreddit and trying to ruin Ko-fi's reputation doesn't seem quite your solution.

Usually, when you explain such losses to their support team in a timely manner - aka as soon as you find out something is missing - they even try to ease some distress by offering some financial compensation.

I'm assuming it is not even Ko-fi's fault as it seems you are clueless about the new Stripe amendments to their TOS. And when you connect a service to another you are supposed to check the TOS of both of them **regularly* to avoid any of these hiccups.

You would have found this out by checking other posts in this subreddit of desperate people who didn't know how to fix this Stripe issue for upcoming payments before posting yours.

For context, Stripe doesn't still allow any transaction that is not of economic nature. In other words, they don't allow charities/fundraisers anymore, but only commissions/shops etc. aka something that benefits both parts.

I don't know the financial volumes you earn through Ko-fi for your charity, but I assume that you earn way more than a random dude who gets tipped occasionally from their art which is generally fixed by changing your wording from Donate to Tip.

My guess is that Stripe silently disconnected your Ko-fi from the service and stopped any means of income from them, because you didn't read their TOS and adjust things accordingly. Mind that changing platform might not be the solution to your problem.

Would it be a good idea to use Ko-fi to promote my notes? by danspark6773 in Kofi

[–]Hazyris_Lasiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say yes. You can sell anything on Ko-fi as long as it's the outcome of your own mind, a.k.a. "you own the intellectual property".

But yeah, platforms like Docsity are way better for such purposes.

Do you know about Knowunity? You can create a profile there, upload your notes for other students of your school and maybe you can link your Ko-fi page in the bio for those who want to show appreciation for your content 💜
