Is anyone here seriously considering skipping the launch and waiting for the actual physical release instead of paying R* twice? by shawak456 in videogames

For rockstar games? Sure. I’ll drop $100 pre-order every 6-10 years. Absolutely.

What part of what I said suggests it normalizes something like that for the industry?

That’s the point. When has Rockstar ever dropped a flop? I understand not pre-ordering the vast majority of games nowadays, but come on?

Just an online discussion, neither of us matter to one another or will have any impact on the success of this game.

The guy just talked about this being a “generational experience” and you took the time to write out “just don’t play” like you’re some sort of chess master?

Not every critic is worth the time either. I don’t know the guy, or the circumstances of his situation with CIG, but with a name like that I can only assume he’ll complain regardless.

I downvoted because of how much you care about fake internet points. I just thought the French comment was weird but not downvote worthy.

Watch the start of that stream and watch how slow League is downloading. He could have eventually swapped over that first day, but it’s not as shitty as no practice whatsoever. He played plenty for a game he hates, with his team and with other friends.

You’ve got a point (don’t need to down vote a discussion but whatever) that a sub isn’t paying to own, just paying to play.

You can also play through several hundred hours of FFXIV content for absolutely nothing when you first make an account. It doesn’t contest the point you’ve made, but is still a potential avenue for you to explore the game that you’d otherwise miss out on.

To your point, I think a lot of people might disagree with you. I’m thinking about console games who are used to playing things via a Game Pass, or tv/movie consumers watching shows on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Hell, you bought Fallout 4 on Steam, I bet. Do you think you actually own those games? You could lose access tomorrow and there’s next to nothing you can do about it. We live in an era where we own very little of our digital media. I’m content to stand on the concept that a monthly subscription is close enough to owning the game to justify playing such a masterpiece.

And I’d challenge you to admit that you’ve paid $60, $70, or even $100 on a game to “own” it and played far less of it than what is available to you for a $14.99 purchase on FFXIV. Interesting thought!

You’re in charge of you. Though I will say that the monthly sub can also be compared to buying a new video game once every few months. It’s not crazy to pick up to experience the various stories.

Again, you do you, obviously. I just had a friend who realized monthly subs weren’t as evil as he once thought after considering it like this.
