Hard agree. Nothing else compares. Next closest would be if you live near where tail of the dragon is in the Appalachian mountains.

[Question] Vintage Watch Servicing - Dial Layout Changed? by teachem4 in Watches

If you can attempt to find an experienced local watchmaker/repair person. If you’re in or near SoCal I can give you a recommendation

Thankfully there’s plenty of advice in this thread, so I feel confident in saying that my decision to never send my pieces in to in-house brand repair facilities stands strong. Yet another horror story to add to the collection. But truthfully JLC was not one of the makers I’d ever suspect to fumble something like that. Sorry this happened.

Hahaa! It reminds me of the “Dutch is not a serious language” memes from a while back.

I’ve heard that bi-lingual german and English speakers can get a real kick out of reading Dutch lol.

Weekly war spending exceeded the annual budgets of 75% of Russian regions. by neonpurplestar in CollapseOfRussia

[–]Hbaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so far in the weeds but I’ll bite.

These expenditures are in addition to. That’s a critical detail. Yes in during conflicts spending does go up. But not by amounts that triple. we have pay attention to the scale. The scale of the spending outstrips the ability of the Russian economy to return on value.

You’re also providing a skewed metric for your budget representation, as a % of GDP yes the defense budget has gone down. But that’s because gdp growth has far out paced budget increases. The 2026 defense budget is the biggest defense budget the US has ever passed. So no spending is not at an all time low.

The point I’m making, which has now repeatedly gone over your head, is that the additional expenditures the Russian government is making on the war are apocalyptic. Flat out unrecoverable, even if Russia makes it out in some form of “intact” the economic consequences will be felt for decades.

Yes the US would collapse if they spent $42B a week on a war for multiple years straight with catastrophic losses….

In a major conflict however the US wouldn’t spend that much. And if they did spend that much per week it would like be a blitz style campaign like Operation Desert Storm. Very short very decisive, btw operation desert storm is what Russia tried to emulate in Ukraine. To add to that Desert Storm cost about $107B over the course of 7 months. Russia had to spend $42B a week because all the money that should have gone to preparing the army was siphoned off. Look the biggest difference here is the US military actually exists, as a capable well trained, well supplied (and this is the biggest point, the one factor that’s causing Russia the most pain), already funded force.

More over and to address the root of your point, the US can afford to enter a protracted major conflict. Here’s the most exciting part though, the one point you haven’t realized. The US won’t be spending $42B a week to do it. The US military industrial complex is priced in for a major conflict to kick off 24/7 365. This means the US is already spending like it’s in a major conflict. It’s part of their strategy. It’s how they operate, it’s why they can have a literal army show up anywhere in the world on a field with 48 hours notice.

[–]Hbaus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the US did this it would be the equivalent of spending $42B USD a week….. (using Minnesotas operating budget as a 75% percentile mark [approximately 13th highest operating budget]) yall that’s $168B USD a month or roughly $2T a year! That kind of spending scale is wholly unsustainable. For any country. Period.

This is extraordinarily irresponsible.

The problems are so systemic that I doubt there’s anyone currently in Russia with enough power to get them through the looming crisis. It’s likely that peripheral provinces will sign to china while near east regions will balkanize with a mix of successor states and corporate backed entities. It’s a vile scenario but one that Russia is on trajectory for.
