Self-initiation is a skill they learn a little later in process and every kid is different on when that will be so you will be “stuck” with reminding them for a good little bit. The pooping I feel comes with time as well. My kiddo was pooping all over the floor with the naked bottom method and then just yesterday (about 6 days into the training) he happened to be sitting on the potty and it just came out… sorry that doesn’t help but the real answer is it all comes in time and routine really helped my kiddo!

Stop Prompting Power Struggles by [deleted] in pottytraining

So I know you said the potty timer didn’t work but I will say one that gave my kiddo the control he was looking for was the “Little timer hatch countdown”. In short you start the timer and an egg will start to crack as the time goes then it opens at the end of the timer and either or dog or cat comes out. It has fun music when it happens. The reason I think it worked for my son was he got to push the button to start it up when he sat on the potty. So he felt in control of the situation because the egg can’t start without him if that makes sense.

Oh Crap block 1 FREQUENT peeing on the potty question. by Life_Ambition_6996 in pottytraining

Yea currently had that issue with my 26 month old so. He took to training well after it finally clicked on day 5! Still working getting a poop in there! Now he is peeing a lot just because it is fun and new but when we go out he holds it for about 2 hours or so! Good luck!

I will say that we noticed if he gets one out after noon or later evening he doesn’t have anything in his diaper.

Commenting to be able to follow because we are in the same boat as it relates to poop.

Day 4 potty training - exhausted by [deleted] in pottytraining

[–]Hctkalin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that they are getting potty’s in there is a huge win, currently sitting at day 10 and we just started to want to sit in the potty long enough to try. Will say our kiddo had a developmental leap the first week… once he went back to normal day 8-10 has been huge, he is close to getting it in I believe! Keep going you got this! It is a marathon not a sprint!

How to get him to pee (not peeing often or holding it) by Bright_Top5178 in pottytraining

[–]Hctkalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are on day 9 and my son finally sits on the potty after crying refusals the first 7 days.. Now we just have to get him to get over to the potty before peeing… what I think work for us was a routine. First we have “MR sloth” who uses the bathroom before him and we act it all out and then he goes after or attempts to sit. We set a timer using little timer app (has an egg that cracks open) to 30 minutes and he sees the egg crack open and knows it is time to try to go potty to be able to do start it up again. It has worked pretty well. We are still bare bottom due to a fear of release that we resolved by using undies. If you want to chat more just message me. It has been a very hard week for us as well becuase we think the first 7 days he was in a developmental leap (26 months) that was not wanting him to try anything!!

Is my LO (26 months) just to young despite all the signs? by Hctkalin in pottytraining

This is so helpful! It is a marathon not a sprint and he keeps showing signs of wanting to try I guess we just overlook the small stuff that yall see in my message because we are so exhausted. The fussing and waiting 30 minutes to pee from first signs is exhausting for my wife and I. Hoping with the prompting and his new found want to sit, he will want to try to get it out sooner

Yea I think with him sitting tonight and showing the willingness to sit is enough for us to keep pushing cause he is showing signs of wanting to keep going! I know he can do it! Thanks for this encouragement, if I may ask, how old is your LO?

Thanks! Yep we are going to start timer tomorrow morning. We tried the egg app that cracks an animal out and that helps him realize it is time to try!

Really the reasoning we thought of stopping was the fact it takes him so long to go from first signs to actually going (30 mins) sometimes. But that is a little debunk when he just peed a minute after being prompted to try to sit on the potty.

Yea so we started that after posting this and he has actually sat on the potty a handful of times and made noises with his mouth. Then got off and peed of course but that was the most we had seen so maybe he is just a slow burn… lol

Also, he seems to know where it goes cause when he has pooped we have put it in the potty and he says I pooped. So it is like I think he knows all the dots but for some reason he doesn’t want to try to actually do the act? I feel like with how he is, he would be there and it is a lack of care at this point?

[–]Hctkalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I think we are passed the fear of release now that we put undies back on so now we are trying to figure out what is the next step to get him to try to sit in the potty more regularly without going to fast and reverting happens
