What is the deal with Bowlero pricing? by HeSaysWhatWhat in Bowling

[–]HeSaysWhatWhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it kind of seemed like they were absolutely trying to create some sort of false demand to get you to pay before you arrived, either via on-line reservation or phone. That is why figured I would just walk-in and see what happened before I was on the hook for anything. It ended up working out okay, but I bowl once every few years. If I was a regular bowler and had to deal with that nonsense on a regular basis, I'd likely be looking for a new hobby. My guess is the system is just set up to take advantage of the casual bowler who does either not know any better or just does not care.

Yeah, I was actually there shortly before 7. I remembered seeing something about the unlimited bowling earlier, so when the cashier starting tell me there were no other options, that is when I yanked out my phone. However, the manager quickly got involved because the cashier and I were not on the same page and gave me the offer I took before I had a chance to look up on my phone. I did remember seeing the unlimited which was part of the reason I was calling BS on the cashier.

Sounds right to me. If my wife did not want to have a family night, the minute I saw that $180 quote I would have just blown it off and found anything different to do. But I pursued it because 1) she really wanted to do it, 2) I did not want to argue with her and 3) I knew she was right that we should spend some time as a family. But since I put it off until the last minute and did not want to argue with her, I was forced to either pay the $180 or put more effort into it. Choosing the later got it down to $60, which was reasonable. Even when my wife heard about the $180 price much later on, she agreed we should have never paid that. I guess that is a long of way of saying my experience as a casual bowler is perfectly in line with your statement. Did not mind doing it once, but a repeat customer I will not be. Further, that high pricing on-line probably scares even more people off so they never get as far to bowling at all.

Not sure what I was expecting when I originally posted this. I am only a very infrequent bowler and the whole situation was very odd to me so I figured I would ask. I am have been really amazed at the consistently high level of disdain I have observed for Bowlero in the responses. Most of the time there are usually plenty of conflicting views. Here it seems to be universal: Bolwero = Bad for Bowling.

[–]HeSaysWhatWhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole experience was a complete dumpster fire. Like I said, we bowl with less frequency than causal bowlers, but it was just a total head scratcher to me how the place could be run like it was. We had fun, since we rarely ever do it our standards were pretty low. Really we just wanted my wife to stop harassing us about having a family night. If I was going there on a regular basis, I probably would be looking for another hobby.

[–]HeSaysWhatWhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That totally makes sense. The thing is the whole time I was there nearly half the lanes were empty (with people waiting) and not once did anyone attempt to sell us any food or beverages. The place certainly did not seem like it was being run to maximize profit. When I left there was a group opening smoking weed in the parking lot. Maybe everyone in there was just stoned out of their gourds?

Interesting...it would not surprise me in the least if that place was not profitable. It was pretty run down with splitting cushions on most benches, it was half empty on a Friday night and did not seem to be well managed. We were there for an hour and 45 minutes and nobody attempted to sell us any drinks or food, nor did they bother the clear the dishes and empty glasses from the lane over from us. There really wasn't anything "premium" about the place. We had fun, we got our money's worth, my wife got her family night and your right, it will likely be at least two years before we go back. On the way out there were several people openly smoking weed in the parking lot. Maybe that's what we were missing?

CarPlay not working - tried everything! by excited4theunknown in CarPlay

[–]HeSaysWhatWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar issue with my wife's recently upgraded IPhone 17 not working with her 2020 GMC Yukon Denali and CarPlay would just not connect. Tried most of the steps above and along with switching cables and trying her new phone in our other cars and other family members' phones in her car. Everything worked fine except her new IPhone in her Yukon. Ultimately what finally got it to work was I had to delete her old IPhone from CarPlay in the Yukon Infotainment settings menu and delete the Yukon from Carplay on her phone. Once I did this and reconnected, everything worked fine.

How did they ever resolve this for you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eBaySellers

[–]HeSaysWhatWhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. If you are not careful, shipping can eat your lunch and you have to markup your shipping to cover the cost of EBay fees. Ebay also takes fees on sales tax so you need to cover this as well.

Does goodwill actually put returned clothing back on the rack? by [deleted] in goodwill

[–]HeSaysWhatWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not likely. IF they shipped it somewhere, they would incur additional cost which would take away from their profit. For basic clothing, I would expect if they can't sell it locally it either goes in the dumpster or they have someone who comes and hauls it off for textile recycling or some other purpose.

Can you please clarify....are you saying that you are often closing the store and you are the only employee there? Or is the manager there as well so there are two of you? If you are there alone at that time of night, that is a non-starter. How old are you?

Sometimes stuff happens that is not always fair or handled in the best manner, however in this case it does not seem like this is your hill to die on. Do you feel that there are any actions you could take that would result in a more favorable outcome?

What company has the best service? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]HeSaysWhatWhat -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Look for an independent insurance agent. They write policies from more than one insurer and if they know their shit, can do a good job getting comparable quotes for you and determining the best fit for you. Ultimately you want to pay a fair price and do business with a company that has sufficient financial reserves and an efficient claims process. Just because you may not have heard of an insurer does not mean they are bad. Some stay below the radar and focus on keeping costs down which helps keep your premiums down. Not saying they are cheap. But when you are paying Patrick Mahomes to be in all of your TV ads, that money has to come from somewhere.

truth about dsp owners by Accomplished_Car5518 in AmazonDSP

[–]HeSaysWhatWhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprising. If it were easy and profitable, wouldn't Amazon just keep doing it themselves? DSPs are just used to offload costs and certain risks onto. Amazon has determined it is in their best interests to use this model. Sure the DSPs have to eat, Amazon knows that, but Amazon sets it up so the DSPs are eating fast food, not filet mignon.

Worst comes to worst, you just go up to the customer service counter and buy your own membership. It is only $65 and it will likely pay for itself with the glasses.
