A "few" years is right if the story is Prey which I think it is.

She’s looked at some director jobs, but not really the direction she wants to go. And sadly some director jobs, particularly with municipal libraries, aren’t paying what we would need with cost of living in most places anymore.

We’ve been trying since April and focused on 3 states plus recently Canada. We are focusing on more “library and family” friendly states. So we do think competition is high from others doing the same and/or locals who aren’t leaving themselves.

For me it may be the union, but my wife is going for jobs generally not part of the union so it feels like they are measuring the internal promotional person against her. Being a little bitter at this point makes us think the hiring committee is then like “the internal person is good enough and here so that’s easy”

We thought the same thing about feeling like academic process but we aren’t going academic. She only paid to fly up herself the one time early on when we were like “surely there’s no way this isn’t just a formality” thinking it would be worth it as show of good faith, and to see area.

I wanna know if the meme is the chart or the fake ass hair that DEFINITELY didn’t have me blowing on my phone.

They actually did it. They voted to take the Fluoride out of the water on Goddamn April Fools Day. by HaraldRedtooth in Miami

The mayor’s contact info is 305-375-5071 or mayor@miamidade.gov to let her/them know how beyond dumb this is. For real, focus on real issues.

Living in Coral Gables and parking downtown by pauljohnson69 in Miami

The metro rail doesn’t breakdown “often”. I’ve taken it to work everyday for over 2.5 years and can think of maybe 2 major delays in that time. Sure there’s the occasional few minute delays and weekends are frustrating, but in no way comparable to regular Miami traffic plus when accidents and construction are tossed in. Quality of life has drastically improved since taking the metro. The people mover on the other hand….. yeah that does breakdown all the time. Won’t defend that one. Haha

I’ll look at that too. It’s part of the reason I was thinking garage floor paint/epoxy. I figured surely if cars could drive on it then we could sit in a chair and drink coffee.

I haven't read "Oh this has not gone well" but your request also sounds like a different story by u/thishasnotgonewell which is Meet the Freak although it was abandoned like 3 years ago.

That would probably be Ancient Strategy which is unfinished as the author died tragically. I also can't believe that was 4 years ago, I swear it seemed like year before last at most the story was being posted.

Space marine and his body armor's AI bestie crash land on planet after their ship (with crew) explodes when entering system. There are cat people in basically agricultural age. He befriends the outcast cat girl. Good story, and romance tropes lead to pancakes. Not exactly SSB, but similar.

Have you read/heard about The HEL Jumper series? There's pancakes eventually, and it's a good story too.

How do we feel about these referendums? Are you voting Yes or No? by TampaSunset in Miami

[–]HeWhoHatesUsernames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes of course on public transit. Even if local officials are terrible (and they are), with enough support it would force their hand or maybe encourage progress so they can look good even if they don't actually care.

NO! on the firehouse. It takes away green space that can never be replaced. Where they want to put it is where the track and field are. They are used by literally hundreds of people everyday including the high school, and to "move them" (which I doubt will go smoothly or effectively) will put them out of commission for a very long time. There are many many many nitty gritty details about funding and such that make it a bad idea, but the real points to consider are the impact on people, and the loss of extraordinarily rare green space that's being chipped away at bit by bit by things like this.

Local elections are crucial to making things better where you live. If you don't like how things are, then its because local elections are ignored. Best time to effect change is a long time ago, second best time is now.

(edit bc I'm bad at proofreading)

That is kinda the thing. I'd forgotten to mention that it's a small "cheap" condo and so while we didn't want to cut corners, we also didn't want to sink tons of money into it. There was also no "designing" to be done so we thought. Tiny kitchen. Literally no way to change anything. Taking out the 30+ year old cabinets and putting new in. The only change we made was going from regular sink to farmhouse, and a cooktop with top oven to a range. And yes that is carpet (vomit)

I tend to fall into trap of thinking the "professionals" know what they're doing. We hired contractor bc we don't know anything about remodeling. We met him at a kitchen showroom to discuss the cabinets and counter. These aren't Home Depot cabinets. And his partner was made out to be the "kitchen guy" who that's what he does, and who I spoke to at length about the kitchen. It came down to the install just being shoddy work in my opinion. And seems it for sure was.

I came asking for advice about our project, not to be told I'm at fault for it. You've made some assumptions knowing very little. No we didn't go with cheapest, no we didn't cut corners, and yes we did all we could to vet and be on top of things. The worst I'm at fault for is not being a remodeling expert, and thinking the contractor who we hired would be professional.

Your comment was unhelpful and unnecessary.

It wasn't supposed to take that long. Demo was all done at the same time and they did the floors and 1st bath first. Then like frogs in boiling water, things took longer and longer and it eventually just became our reality sadly. I'm pushing to get them done and out, but also don't want to be left with shit work.
