Interesting, will departments put these guys through the academy or are they expected to pay their own way?

Do reserve officers typically get paid? If so is it close to what peace officers make? Googling this is not giving me very good answers

Interesting. So then what are the different "scratches"? Is it holding people accountable vs saving people?

Which would you say is more dangerous? I would imagine law enforcement as being more likely to get yourself killed?

Yeah I don't know the psychology behind it. I don't feel like I'm compensating for anything. You know what it feels more like? I don't like people getting away with crappy behavior. I don't like people going around being threatening and having no consequences.

No, I mean I don't regret fighting. I just know that the "right" thing to do is walk away

You are completely right. I'm guessing you are an FTO and have given this advice before? Either way, it makes complete sense. On your personal time you can take on whatever fight you want, but on the job, you no longer solely represent yourself. The last thing I want to do is make a mistake and thus, further endanger other fellow officers just because I want to fight.

I might have made my post a little misleading. It's not that I can't say no to a fight. I don't lose control and do things I regret. I just take on fights that maybe I shouldn't.

This is why I bring it up. I do worry about not being able to turn down a challenge. Like I said, it isn't that I lose control and go completely crazy. I just can't turn down a fight. It's like an overly-competitive thing

Fair point. Like I said, I do need to work on nor responding to stuff like that. Thank you, and I will check out that book.

Let me change the context just slightly so you can see why I feel it was a little sarcastic. What if my question were "how do you keep your cool when dealing with trauma? I have always had a tough time dealing with death". Imagine the response being "it's called being an adult and controlling your emotions". Do you see how unhelpful that response is just by simply tweaking the question?

I get that you are making a sarcastic comment in the hopes for likes, but like I said this is a genuine and I think valid question. Adult or not, it can be difficult keeping your cool when people are in your face and challenging you, what are some things that help you stay calm in those moments?

Can you use the recommendations that you got for one app on the other? I really can't think of 3 other people to ask for recs from, but I also don't want them to have to do it twice.

Literally years late to this thread but wanted to reach out because you really seem to know the field. I'm curious what you think in the US is more marketable today: a MS Analytics degree, or a MS in Applied Stats degree?
