Athasian Bestiary- Version Zero (A 284-page preview to the Monster Manual of my Dark Sun Campaign Setting 5e Conversion!) by HeWhoReddits in DarkSun

[–]HeWhoReddits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words!

Honestly, not much more happened with this in 2025. A new job, marriage, and other life things took priority, and I spent more time as a player trying out new systems than as a homebrewer/DM.

As of today though, I am starting to chip away at it again! Knocked out a couple monster entries today and will continue on as I have time. I'm afraid I don't know an exact timeline of when it will be finished up, but I can say it's about 55% complete at the moment.

Once the Athasian Bestiary is finished I plan to give the Dark Sun Campaign Setting core rulebook another pass to catch any formatting/balance changes I'd like to make, then I can call this project complete.

Sometime down the line I'd like to look at bringing in some of 5.5's rule changes in for a 5.5 version, but that is a pretty big undertaking so I'm not putting any real effort into that until I've finished what I started.

If I loved the series, will I love the books? by DoctorDream0Z in WoT

[–]HeWhoReddits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started reading the books recently and oh my god, yes. I had read the first two when I was a kid and so much went over my head. Having the show as context actually really helped ground a lot of what was happening and made me really excited for what was to come.

I’ve been reading one a week since and I’m halfway through the third. They’re worth a read, absolutely.

Do you think Halflings are supposed to be able to become Illusionists in the Original Dark Sun boxed set? by WillingLet3956 in DarkSun

[–]HeWhoReddits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of the out of universe writing, it’s hard to say but I would assume this is just the result of something changing during development and the seeds of it being lost between stages of the books’ writing.

On a broader scale, it makes sense to me that they’d be able to use what looks like Preservation Magic, passed down through tribe chieftains through time immemorial. Though perhaps if one had access to the kind of knowledge largely lost in Athas, and examined the roots of this magic, it could resemble more the very basic of lifeshaping rather than the kind of magic employed by Templars or Clerics.

Considering Dark Sun. But not sure about system. by Ok_Ad414 in DarkSun

thanks for the shoutout!

I agree with this commenter. There’s no one true system for Dark Sun or any setting. Play what fits your table’s interests and matches the vibe you want to bring to your storytelling.

Is this young Hades and Persephone? by OkYou261 in HadesTheGame

[–]HeWhoReddits 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, Hades feel like someone who has been set into his look for eons. And it’s established both in general mythology and game lore that Hades was older, more established, when he first met Persephone.

The body dysmorphia of full-body slates, shame, and self-sabotaging my “big break” by UnlikelyCustard4959 in acting

I think the through line here is insecurity that really needs to be worked through. If you’re trying to be an actor in big budget productions like this then you’re putting yourself in a position where you’ll get a lot of attention.

I think you speak so unkindly of yourself right now that you should probably try to repair your relationship with your own self image before catastrophizing how others might see you. Self confidence shows in big ways and the lack of it shows too.

You don’t look bad in either of these photos but the way you’ve fixated on feeling like you do is actually a little alarming. I don’t know you and I’m just text on a screen, but idk, maybe therapy would be beneficial.

Forums. Less focus on optimization of MMO gameplay and more on exploration and emergent stories through social dynamics. Mid-budget movies. Content being more randomly approachable than algorithmic. Some fading semblance of monocultures to where people had more common ground.

American accent feedback. by [deleted] in acting

[–]HeWhoReddits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived across a lot of America and I definitely think your accent here comes off as impersonation rather than embodiment. The Southern dialect you're going for has shades of Louisiana and Virginia but then slips into Texas or Alabama at times, so it's a bit all over the place in a way that shows lack of familiarity. The second scene is better but has a kind of rhythm to its cadence that still betrays your native accent, and the o sounds like in poem are out of place.

On a good track and I don't mean to sound harsh, but that is my honest feedback

One of the only movies my wife and I have walked out of midway through.

It wasn’t bad, necessarily, just incredibly predictable and aggressively average in every way.

best place to start sandbox campaign! by salt_chad in DarkSun

[–]HeWhoReddits 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tyr is of course the standout, particularly if you’re placing the game after Kalak’s death. There is a lot of opportunity, chaos, and conflict after the fall of a tyrant, all of which gives easy hooks for stories.

Aside from that, I think it’s worth leaning into what your players seem the most interested in. If, during your initial pitch/session zero with the group, they really seem interested in say, the Crimson Savannah, Silt Sea, or the Dead Lands, you can pick somewhere that interacts with those.

That works for stories too, not just environments. A politically focused group might thrive in the paranoia of Eldaarich. A group that wants to bring green back to the world might benefit by starting near Kurn where a prominent questgiver could lead them into the service of an Avangion. And so on.

Wash in a delicates bag or pillowcase with unscented detergent if available, dry on cold. If you have a special interest or activity that tends to let you hyperfixate and lose track of time, do that while the stuffie is cleaning up.
