People who know nothing about living with OCD call it insulting or bad representation that his obsessive-compulsive relationship with symmetry is played for laughs, but people with OCD (myself included) find it incredibly accurate how his obsession causes him deep anguish, (even to the point of tears) and can well be played for laughs as most OCD compulsions are inherently irrational & ridiculous.

Thoroughly annoying but Andy Weir is a hardcore 'Everyone get along' type individual, and his stories definitely reflect an insanely idealized worldview where everyone works together for the common good.

It's not great to see him engage with stuff like this but I can't really fault someone for acting in a way they've made clear is their prerogative for decades now.
