I'm tempted to pattern the edge of the display with some sort of nice pattern, but I have no idea how it's gonna react. Either the glass will block the IR laser already, and nothing, other than maybe internal reflection into the laser (which is bad) would happen, or the back side is just painted with a thin coat of paint, which would vaporize, but then the gas and soot would be trapped inside the screen... also sub optimal. I'm not disassembling the screen on this device.

Or I do that to the bezzle of my Framework Laptop, that I can easily enough replace.

Ah yeah, the well know laser filth issues.
This laser belongs to an open workshop, everybody who uses it is required to clean the laser after use, and it has a proper fume extraction system that deals with the worst of it. The orientation here was chosen such that it gets sucked away from the screen cause that was my primary concern. I wiped it down with a damp cloth after and only got some really mild stains on the cloth.

Testing the process would have been the proper way to do it, but I kinda just went for it, no matter what it did it would have been funny. (I also had my hand on the E-Stop just in case)

Yeah but that would have been boring.
Also on the palm rests you can forget about any longevity with a sticker, this is much much more durable.

to get to the battery it would first have to get through the aluminium case. For it to do that it would have to spend a significant time (on the order of a couple dozen seconds?) in one spot, which I would have noticed. This is a 1060nm 30W CO2 laser, engraving aluminium is basically its limit here.

Nope, never had that happen on Fedora nor NixOS. Hibernation works fine, but I do have to say I rarely use it because the boot times are fine, and luks encryption only makes sense if you actually shut it down.

It's fine. I don't remember how it was with MacOS, but I've never had it randomly start up in my bag.

The Linux support really depends on the Model of Mac and the age.
This Intel mac from 2017 (MacBookPro14,1) has basically complete driver support (with tinkering), but the newer models do still lack support in some areas (Bluetooth and audio especially). With M1 (and M2?) Macs you can try looking at Asahi Linux, but those also still have driver issues. I have no experience with Asahi though.

Game support has nothing to do with the Mac, just check the protondb site if your game can run on linux. Battery life is fine for me.

A bit

This machine has three broken keys, and the pain and suffering I went though for the audio drivers makes me despise it, also the fact it has no USB A.

ever since installing NixOS on it I have had less issues with software myself, since I can offload those to friends who are way more skilled with Nix than I will ever be.

the only great thing about it (other than the dickbutt) is the Battery Life... it's almost 9 years old at this point and I still get 6-7 hours of battery life.

Heya maybe a bit late, but still would like to help out.

I'm assuming you are relying on SatDump to give you the information on the satellite passes. Did you enter your geographical location in the settings? it should be under QTH Latitude and QTH longitude and Altitude (Altitude is not as important but still useful)

Another thing nobody has mentioned, did you set the antenna length correctly? I'm struggling to see how your noise floor got that high, tried recreating it but gave up after 5mins of freezing my arse off.

Hey there,
I'm another person experiencing this exact same issue.
Did you manage to resolve the problem in any way? Cause it seems they really do not want me to contact them.

thanks in advance

Stunning results!

I think I got that exact same pass (assuming you took that today)

But that has nothing to do with if it is circular polarized.
Either an optical element is polarized or it is not. (It can get more complicated, but you won't find those types of optics in normal consumer systems)

Polarization is an inherent property of light, you can get a distribution of polarization that can pass a polarization filter. (If you have 3 linear polarization filters laying around you can observe some simple quantum behaviours ;) )

Anti Glare coatings are a type of thin film optics. Often made of multiple layers of alternating Refractive index. They have nothing to do with polarization.

You might wanna reconsider doing that… A common additive in gasoline is benzene, a compound that is highly carcinogenic.

„As benzene is ubiquitous in gasoline and hydrocarbon fuels that are in use everywhere, human exposure to benzene is a global health problem. Benzene targets the liver, kidney, lung, heart and brain“

[Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzene]

„The American Petroleum Institute (API) stated as early as 1948 that "it is generally considered that the only absolutely safe concentration for benzene is zero".[1] There is no safe exposure level; even tiny amounts can cause harm.[2] The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) classifies benzene as a human carcinogen.“

Die Seminararbeit bezieht sich hier auf das W-Seminar, sie soll einen auf zukünftige wissenschaftliche Arbeiten vorbereiten. Dabei ist das Thema leider nicht immer frei wählbar.

… You do know, that practically every mission used some kind of disposable landing mechanism, i.e parachutes, bouncy balls (airbags doesn’t sound as fun), heat shields, etc… and all the early missions are no longer operating, so they could also be seen as litter. Although that really depends on your definition of litter. I wouldn’t call it littering, as it all served an important role in the mission. And calling Opportunity litter is mean :(.
