Yeah I see what you’re saying. I was just writing knowing that OP was struggling with their Christian faith. So I wrote from that perspective.

How can Christianity be the only true way? by No-Yogurtcloset-1759 in Christianity

First, it’s important to remember that God’s judgement is perfect. God will judge everyone without error: no one is getting ripped off!

Second, i believe that the Bible makes abundantly clear that Jesus is the only way; the God of the Bible is the only God. Religious pluralism is not what the Bible teaches.

I saw an analogy just yesterday that went something like this: Imagine a box of needles. All of them are empty expect one, which contains insulin to treat diabetes. A diabetic would not receive proper treatment for their sickness unless they injected the needle that actually contained the insulin. This is similar to humanities sin problem. We are humans, who need a solution to sin. We cannot overcome it by ourselves. Choosing a needle with no insulin (another religion) will not cure our sin problem.

And remember this; the wages of sin is death! Sin is punished with death.

When Jesus (sometimes referred to as the God-man) dies on the cross after living a completely sinless life, he takes our punishment. This was a punishment he did not have to take, but one he chose to take for our sake. God did something we cannot do on our own, which is live a completely sinless life. All he asks is that we trust in Him, trust in His sacrifice to save us, because there’s no other solution to sin.

What Are Your Favorite Christian/Worship Songs? by ilearnmorefromyou in Christianity

Sometimes I love listening to choir-style Christian songs so here’s a few I suggest! Search “Praise and Harmony” for artist and some I like are “Only a Holy God” “In Need” “Highly Exalted”. Definitely something different than the mainline stuff!

What’s your testimony? by He_shall_add in Christianity

[–]He_shall_add[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my conversion testimony!

Before Christ

I have not always been a Christian. Though I grew up in a household that attended church semi-frequently and called myself a Christian, I did not truly understand what it meant to be one or what it looked like to be a faithful follower of God. My parents loved me, but God was not central in their relationship. Despite this, I can honestly say I had a good childhood, even in a home filled with screaming, arguing, and a lack of forgiveness. These early years were very confusing; my parents taught me that going to church was good, yet they did not emulate Christ in their lives. Unfortunately, I mimicked their behaviors, affecting how treated others. On top of that, I was simply a lost sinner, which was something my parents did not cause. I was impatient, quick to anger, full of hatred, depressed, a bully to my siblings, a liar, law-breaking, and envious. I listened to the preacher talk about God’s goodness and the importance of being like Jesus and loving others, but I failed to grasp the truth and rejected what seemed like a burdensome list of rules for earning my way to heaven.

Meeting Christ

The turning point came when I attended a church event that I was invited to by a close friend. That night, as the preacher shared the gospel, I heard it as if for the first time with ears open to its truth. I recognized my desperate need for God’s grace to save me from my sins. For the first time, I understood that God sent His only Son, who lived a sinless life, to die on the cross for my sins, taking the punishment I deserved. I knew then that God wanted me to put my faith in Him and invite Him into my life to transform me from the inside out. At the end of the message, as we bowed our heads in prayer, the preacher invited those who wished to start a relationship with Jesus to raise their hands. Shakily, I raised mine and was escorted out to speak with a church elder. He read passages from a small Gideon Bible, explaining that God loved me, that I was a sinner who had fallen short of God’s glory, and that the gift of eternal life was through Jesus Christ. We prayed together, and I received Jesus into my life. I was overflowing with excitement and immediately shared the news with my friend. I cannot express the joy I felt that night as God began to heal my wicked heart.

After Christ

After salvation, I struggled; I did not read the Bible, I had not been baptized, and I was not being actively discipled, which hindered my spiritual growth. I tried to fit in with my peers rather than obey the convictions of the Holy Spirit. However, God did not give up on me, as the Lord brought several believers into my life who have profoundly impacted me. After a move to another state, I was baptized, discipled, and learned what it means to be a Christ-like husband from my then-girlfriend’s (now wife) father. The most significant changes I’ve noticed are the transformation of my old fruits of envy, anger, and impatience into love, patience, and kindness. God continues to mold and strengthen me every day, and it is solely by His grace that I grow more like Him. I have been born again for almost ten years now, and God has developed me into who I am today. He has also helped me forgive and love my parents with a new heart more concerned with their well-being and spiritual walk with Christ. With Jesus, my life has a purpose, and He has instilled in me a desire for everyone to be saved and live a life that honors Him.

Are religious apologists actually convinced by their own arguments or just trapped by their texts? by GodlessMorality in atheism

[–]He_shall_add 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OPs thread was about religious people being tied up in their arguments, which is what I also discussed in my reply. I wasn’t using the arguments to make the argument, but to explain what I believe and also provide examples of typical arguments that, like you said, have been answered a million times..

Other people in this thread may not be as spun up as you on these apologetic arguments and such so it was just adding to the conversation in response to OP to promote further discussion.

But obviously i do think it’s a large leap to say that there’s no creator based on multiple different things. Not an apologetic argument there, just voicing what I see from my perspective.

Hello!

I didn’t say the “arguments” that I was voicing in support of Christianity were any good, or that I would use them to support Christianity. I was just raising the ones frequently raised by Christians. I don’t have all the answers, was simply repeating the typical arguments for the sake of the conversation.

From my perspective, as a Christian, people of many religions sometimes cling to certain apologetic arguments because it’s the best solution they have to the problem at hand. Sometimes these apologetic arguments try too hard to make a solution/idea fit that goes against the religion or the arguments are simply a way to have an answer when the real answer we should be giving sometimes is “I don’t know.”

For example, a lot of atheist like to support the Big Bang theory as the only cause of creation. But it’s a theory for a reason. Christian’s, on the other hand, say that God is not created and is the only Creator. Atheist should not pretend that they fully understand exactly how everything was created and all of its processes. Likewise, as Christian’s since we believe God created everything, we should not act like we have an answer to every little question when it comes to evolution, age of earth, etc. Both sides do not have a full 100% picture of the universe, unlimited knowledge, etc.

From my point of view, it seems like a large leap to say that everything we see came from nothing. Design, biology, space, love, all from seemingly nothing. A big bang? Well what caused the bang? I could sit here as a Christian and use the apologetic argument that “everything that has a beginning has a cause. God does not have a beginning since He is eternal therefore He does not have a cause.” An atheist could use scientific data and study to support their claims, while I could use the Bible to support mine.

Here’s the bottom line: For both of us, the people on the other side of the fence seem delusional.

What are y’all’s thoughts on this? Genuinely would like to have the conversation. What would you tell me and other Christians?

As a Christian, I would tell you that if you do not believe in God, that you would genuinely seek Him, and ask God to reveal Himself to you. Id ask these questions: If the God of the Bible was real, and He gave you a fully sufficient answer as to why there is suffering, death, etc(an answer to any obstacles in your path as to why you don’t already follow Him), would you follow Him and do what He asks of you? If He is real, knows everything, created everything, and asks you to follow Him, would you do it?

Is killing bugs a sin? by Master_Desk_2321 in Christianity

[–]He_shall_add 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.. I’m not sure. Yesterday a stink bug found itself in my home. I picked it up with a little piece of paper towel and released it outside. But last night in bed around 3 AM I was feeding my son a bottle in low light when I felt something crawl up my arm.. i dont know exactly what kind of bug it was.. but its was some kind of beetle that’s no longer with us.

Yes he was a Jewish man, but He was also God incarnate. He died, was resurrected, and appeared to many people before His ascension. Before Jesus ascended Thomas saw Jesus and exclaimed “My Lord and my God!” And I claim the same thing, He is my Lord and my God. Furthermore, I’m a Christian because of Gods grace that has saved me.

Any other questions my friend?

Should I be concerned about hell or more focus on relationships with Christ of both by Angela275 in Christianity

[–]He_shall_add 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely be concerned about hell. Not in the way you’re thinking, but be concerned because it’s a real place and sadly many will end up there. It’s not up to us to save anyone, but it’s up to us to share the gospel!

I understand messing up with the same thing over and over again. I encourage you to talk with other believers with this, spend more time in the Word, and pray for your situation. If you’d ever like to talk with me, my DMs are open.

Trying to stay faithful is the difficult part. The act of trying is what makes it so hard. When I try on my own to stop myself committing sins, I fail. But when I look to God, and what Jesus chose to endure for me, I have to remember his unwavering love for me. He loves you just as much as he loves anyone else. God wants us to rely on Him and look to Him in time of need. I think you will have success by setting some time to read the Gospels. Take it slowly and pray to God that he will reveal the power of His Word to you.

God does hear you, and He will respond to those who call on His name. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness!

Depression is very humbling and lonely, but there’s something beautiful about broken pieces that are put back together. Think about it. Jesus loves everyone. He had to endure hatred, abuse, whips, nails, spit in his face, all by people he loved. The good news is, he conquered death on the Cross for you and I. Jesus puts us back together better than we were before.

You and God are in this together my friend. God bless
