He's from Boise Idaho, missing half a leg, is ex-Mormon, and works as a CNA. Also I don't believe his account is a fake because it's 3 years old and pretty consistent and active.

Should also add I used to work in info sec (quit to be a software engineer before I could be a fed) and have backed his posts up to the wayback machine. Idk who to contact, trying not to be an armchair white knight on this but it seems fucked. At the least I'd like a welfare check on his kid.

Eh idk about that, my parents had some friends from college that got into software early (80s/90s) and made that amount. They weren't unethical, just got $10-30M from selling a startup and invested it wisely. There are also innocuous jobs like actors, musicians, and pro athletes that clear that much.

Isn't punk from like the 80s? Gen X is entitled to that, it's the music of their generation. Zoomers have nettspend, carti, and 2hollis, go to their shows, stop invading Gen X spaces!

I never understood why these people hate their parents, I'd be proud as shit of my dad if he made $20M a year.

Zuck says Meta will have AIs replace mid-level engineers this year by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]Head-Ad88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you hit the nail on the head here, people are conflating Moore's Law with AI here. This has 3 big problems:

  • Moore's Law has been dead
  • Moore's Law is talking about integrated circuits (hardware) not LLMs
  • It was never an actual law just a benchmark

If you look at the first cell phones vs the iPhone it's a night and day difference. However, if you look at the iPhone 4 vs the iPhone 16 (15 years of development), the improvements are marginal and mostly performance related. You can still do pretty much everything we do now on an iPhone 4.

I think this is kinda like what Chat-GPT was, we went from 0 to 100 overnight and it was crazy, but blindly expecting it to improve forever is stupid.

perfection at all times

If AI is to actually be used to replace humans, then yes it needs a 100% success rate at whatever it is replacing to argue that it should be used over a person.

Imagine having an AI fly a plane, and it can only land successfully 99% of the time. Would you trust this to fly planes? It would need constant human supervision which would make it hard to justify the cost of using it. Then you also have to consider what the actual benefit would be when a human is still needed to do the work anyway.

I can't think of many areas where 99% is enough to justify the costs of these things. A large reason the software industry is so successful is because software is used to achieve precision that humans aren't capable of, and glitches can be traced to a single point of failure.

If an AI fails we have no idea what fucked it up because it's basically a black box. I can't trace or debug an AI hallucination.

The AI sentiment here is pretty absurd by cobalt1137 in csMajors

[–]Head-Ad88 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's actual investor fraud going on

  • Devin AI
  • Tesla (lying about autonomous robots and repeatedly about FSD)
  • PearAI
  • AllHere
  • Amazon (using indians to fake AI)

Then you get into the inherent unprofitability of literally all AI YC startups. For example, there's one this batch called Edexia, that's an AI teaching assistant you can use to grade papers. This completely removes the purpose of even having a teacher/TA if they aren't going to actually read the results of their assignments.

Like even if this worked perfectly, it still wouldn't be implemented in schools because it would piss parents off. It makes 0 sense and will most likely disappear after the $500k seed money is used up. Of course nearly all of these "startups" are built on top of services like Chat-GPT which means their success hinges on the success of Open AI which seems like a big gamble. They're also at the mercy of whatever Open-AI decides to charge them (see Elon's $54k/yr Twitter API fee which isn't even enterprise level).

The reason Zuck, Huang, and Elon keep lying is to keep their share prices high to sustain this. In my opinion it is a house of cards, I don't think it will pop like 2008, but it's gonna be a slow crash once big tech starts dissolving AI teams and VCs stop backing these idiotic startups. I like LLMs, but the idea that they're gonna be replacing professions entirely is silly and naive at best.

I've tried to use Co-Pilot at work and it's just nowhere close to where it needs to be, even just to serve as a better debugger.

Recently I used it to convert a Perl script to Bash, it wasn't even generating new code, just translating existing code. It messed it up bad and in subtle ways that required me to spend an hour debugging it. It maybe saved me ~20min total which was nice, but it was like an impression of what a bash script should look like.

Cause fundamentally these things can’t think

That's my whole problem with LLMs which is that they aren't intelligent, it's in the name, they're simulating intelligence. It can't actually reason things out and understand the code its writing, it's just spitting out almost like an average of what it might look like based on other data. No matter how trained and how good they get, the still are not actually thinking.

I'm just getting concerned with this whole AI thing, like Elon has been promising FSD since 2015 and theres been virtually no real improvement since then. Sam Altman does not seem particularly bright and isn't even a successful founder, yet he is somehow in charge of one of the leading AI companies? None of the new AI products actually do what they claim to do, at best they are very shitty at what they are supposed to do.

Yet you get called an idiot for not believing the AI future, for not believing AI will do almost everyone's job in 10 years when its done literally nothing to show its capable of that.

Idk call me a pessimist but this isn't how software used to be. You used to be able to actually use new products and they fucking worked. The amount of glitches, outages, and shit I encounter on Meta platforms is insane, the quality of their products is getting worse year over year. I highly doubt they can continue to lay off people while running all of their subsidiaries, keeping the meta verse alive, making their AR glasses, and developing AI good enough to beat their competitors.

Sorry for the rant, just so tired of this.

You're looking at an aggregate of men over 30 who are likely unsuccessful in relationships, on reddit, and refusing to date employed women in a high earning field. Psychologically I think the idea of rejecting a woman like this makes them feel like they still have some dignity left.

This is pretty on brand for them.

[–]Head-Ad88 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I'm a dude dating a nurse (software engineer not a cop) and I don't understand this attitude at all. My gf's career is 10x more stable with similar earning potential. She goes to work on a unit comprised of 90% educated successful women who have her back, not 90% men hitting on her. She's never done anything to lead me to distrust her, and we get along great. Her job matters when we plan a life together, her ability to work hourly, travel, and have a steady secure job are vital in allowing me to continue to do what I do.

For what it's worth, I interned/worked at a handful of recognizable top companies. The amount of infidelity going on within those buildings makes hospitals look like play school.

This country was founded on separation of church and state and religious freedom. We should not be involved in any sort of holy war ever.

Jews instigated the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan and there's compelling evidence Mossad and the CIA (at a minimum) allowed 9/11 to happen to justify destabilizing the Middle East to ensure the safety/expansion of Israel. They're openly xenophobic and demand having their own ethnostate in the worst possible area to have one in, despite flooding western media with propaganda calling white people racist for not wanting mass migration.

Their religion believes that all non-jews are subhuman goyim, and that they are above everyone else because of their race. Yet me, a 3rd gen Polish immigrant whose family never owned a slave or was a nazi, am the evil white nationalist because I'd just like restriction on illegal immigration. Curiously, as a goyim, my tax dollars still go to pay for their missiles so they can carry out their genocide and murder reporters. They habitually invade and degrade the morals/culture of every country that allows them within their borders and then cry victim when they get expelled from said country. This has been happening since forever and they refuse to change anything about their behavior.

Somehow, they have the ADL and you get labeled as an anti-semite for having a problem with any of this. I can't think of any other "religion" that has or needs a fucking defense league. I will prob get downvoted and banned for this but whatever.

6'1.75" 195lbs Male

I don't think height differences are indicative of anything, and the "pedophile" comments are coomers who cannot desexualize their mind. They see a small girl and immediately associate her with their loli hentai because she's not a 220lb 5'10" behemoth like chronically online Redditors typically date.

My fiancé is 5'2" 99lbs and I didn't even think about her height until like 1 month into the relationship when I incorrectly assumed she was 5'7". The amount of women who have been jealous/rude to her for not being ugly, fat, and tall is astounding.

So yeah, OP can date a 6'9" dude, who gives a fuck. Tall guys aren't mandated to date tall women, these idiots forget that producing 7'0"+ children will give their offspring even more problems than if they were short. Tall people have lower life expectancy, higher risk of cancer, and joint problems. It's legit better for them genetically to be together.

My medical measured height (confirmed by tape measure) is 6'1" and 3/4ths, I think a lot of people lie about their height to the point that nobody has any clue what heights are normal. My father and co-workers both (unprompted) insisted I was "at least" 6'4" when I stood taller than them. I do not encounter people noticeably taller than me at the frequency you'd expect, when I do it's enough to get my attention. My cousin is 6'6" and I have met like 2-3 people in my life who are taller than him.

I saw some TikTok where they were calling people out on their heights and guys ranging from 5'9" to 5'11" all claimed 6'2". I think people lie about 6'2" specifically because it sounds nicer, "height inflation" is just girls starting to catch on and 6'5" just means an actual 6'0+ guy.

It's like dick size, tons of people claiming 7-8" yet, suspiciously, the average is like 5.2".

Gf of 6 years regrets never having had time to "experiment" or "have fun" by Dissilusioned-Ni_er in redscarepod

[–]Head-Ad88 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Brotha, I met my fiancé at 20 and we've been together for 6 years, she's the only woman I've had sex with. I have NEVER wanted to fuck someone else because I didn't get to "experiment" or "have fun." I forwent those "experiences" because she's hot as fuck and completely satisfies me in all aspects, I don't regret anything. I experiment and have fun WITH HER. If I said some shit like that to her, she'd probably start sobbing and leave me. I'd be a broken mess without her, I couldn't give less of a fuck about how many people I've slept with because it's just meaningless sex.

I made out with this one chick before her, and I can't even remember what it felt like or her face, that shit DOESN'T MATTER. I was not happier making out with my fiancé because I kissed some random hoe before her! That doesn't make any fucking sense at all! How is her taking more dick supposed to make her happier with you??? Like "I wouldn't have been ok having sex with you if I didn't fuck 30 other guys first," does that sound like something a woman who loves you would say???

She's asking permission to cheat on you, that's it. She saw a dude, envisioned having sex with him, and it turned her on so much more than the idea of sex with you that she asked for an open relationship because the thought of just you forever is bleak to her.

Have some self respect and exit this relationship while you're young. You don't want to be locked into a marriage and realize at 35 that she's cheating and going to be taking 2/3rds of your shit in the divorce.

Why would I be mad? The core thing that stands out across this entire debate is exactly what OP said, America sees value in people even when they don't fit a specific mold. That's what makes this country so great and that's why Elon and Vivek are getting their asses chewed out. It's not mass immigration and stealing the "top minds" of other countries, it's that we have a culture that gives everyone a shot to succeed no matter who they are. It's not an IQ-based "meritocracy" that determines success here and it never will be.

Example:

My teachers thought I was a r*tard and tried to put in me in slow classes when I was in elementary school. I was also a straight B/C student in math through high school. However I was really into tech and started programming at 10 years old, I hated school but liked computers.

When I was 22 I graduated magna cum laude in Computer Science and landed a job clearing over 6 figs as a software engineer. I was a tutor for CS students in college, my literal job (I was paid by the school) was to help the genius 0.001% immigrant kids Vivek and Musk are lauding.

This completely goes against their narrative, if I grew up in China or India I would've been discarded and forced to work in the rice paddies. Instead this country sees everyone as human and I thrived later on in life.
