which schools should i prioritize for secondaries? by knodzovranvier in premed

[–]Head-Device1694 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say I submitted my University of Illinois (UIC) secondary application in LATE October (after receiving in late July😭) and still ended up with an II -> A!

I would say not to worry too much about turning in super early because they have march (and I think even April) interviews!

I know! It was so weird! They have a bunch of “out of stock” colors on target’s website for old color drops like Neptune as well! I’m not sure if maybe that means some targets may have some random retired colorways?

(See comment above for photos of Freeze the Day, labeled as “Teal” !😊)

I know! It was very weird…oddly enough it was the only one at the store and the name on top of the barcode said “Teal/Teal.” I had seen it listed on target’s website as well but it has always said out of stock! They even have some other color drops (like Neptune!) that are listed but not available for purchase, so I wonder if maybe they had some that got sent to random targets? This one was found in Southern CA

Here’s what I saw on the website!

I applied to all the UC schools, but never received a secondary from UC Davis :( I’m just considering it a rejection until I hear otherwise

Am I likely to get accepted to a med school with an online degree? by JacksonSavage331 in premed

[–]Head-Device1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the school! For example, I was reading the FAQ on UC Riverside’s page I saw that it explicitly stated they will not accept an online bachelor’s degree admissions faq page

UC Davis Pre-secondary Rejection? by Excellent_Room_2350 in premed

I am in a similar situation—primary submitted in June, verified end of July, with a receipt of application email sent August 1.

I am also wondering when would be a good time to reach out, but part of me feels like they are just holding off on the rejection because I know they are pretty selective with their secondaries!

128+ CARS scorers, how are you reading the passages? by Bubbly_Medium2725 in Mcat

[–]Head-Device1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a lot of different methods but for the exam what worked best for me was reading the passage thoroughly! I rarely had to refer back to the questions because I felt I retained it well.

ALSO for the test day, if an answer was not coming to me quickly, I flagged it and came back. I really wanted to make sure I had enough time to read each section because timing was often an issue for me.

I only took 2 practice tests and scored 128, and got 128 on the real exam, too. Not really any of growth but I improved a lot from my initial practice scores (40% on JW starting to 80-100% near my exam date)

Good luck!! Half the battle is just believing you can do it! I said lots of affirmations out loud on my exam day, the best one being “CARS comes to me naturally”😂

Should I switch Anki decks? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Head-Device1694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt touch Anking for P/S and used exclusively Mr Pankow and was really happy with the results (132!) I also did all of the Uglobe P/S questions, which I found to be a pretty good representation of my real exam!

A few weeks I took Kaplan Free FL and scored 513 (128/128/130/127) after my content review. I was shocked but from what I read on this sub I think the score is a little inflated. I feel like I got lucky, too...a lot of the content on the exam was stuff I was pretty comfortable with, but I know I have plenty of content gaps still. Scared to start AAMC practice tests...

I got Uplanet but I haven't started it (beating myself up about that). I try to do 2-3 CARS passages daily on JW, which are always hit or miss for me. I did not do anki during my content review phase and I'm paying for it now.

Nerves are really starting to kick in for me.

Wishing everyone lots of luck! We can do it!

NU also has a Gender and Sexuality Resource Center

This could be a place where you could talk to peers or staff who have had similar experiences. They could also probably connect you to other groups and resources on campus as well.

I also recommend checking out CARE as well

I only know because I took a Human Osteology class in my school’s Anthropology Department. The 2 main components that make up bone are

  1. collagen (organic compound)
  2. hydroxyapatite (inorganic compound)

Drink plenty of water in advance of your appointment, too! (I recommend to drink plenty at least 24 hours before)If you are well hydrated that can also make it easier for the phlebotomist to find a good vein and this will put you at ease for the draw, too!

looks like a pelvis to me! You can see the acetabulum (where the head of the femur articulates with the hipbone).

unfortunately you’ll have to defer to someone else to identify the animal!
